Stereo lights quit working

Darndest thing happened this evening. Started my truck this evening to take my son to cub scouts, turned on the head lights, and the lights on the stereo were not working. Tried turning off the radio, and turning it back on. The lights worked then shut down. The display flickered the rest of the trip. Same thing for the drive home.

The unit was replaced shortly after purchasing the truck under warranty. What is Ford's general policy for warrantying parts replaced under warranty? The truck is out of warranty at this point

Any thoughts? I would like to replace the head unit eventually. However it just isn't in the cards at this point!

You could do one of two things: Check the classified section here. You'll probably find a very reasonably priced unit. Or, find somebody who still has their warranty intact, swap radios to get the replacement, then swap them back. Not exactly ethical, but ethics play no role in Ford's warranty dept. either.

B-man,

Saw that after I posted the original. I am not too handy with a soldering iron. I think I will go with a replacement cd player...maybe an Alpine or Kenwood. It has been a long time since I bought a new stereo. I was reasonably happy with the stock unit. Sounded pretty good for a stock unit.

I just need to wait a few weeks to get a new one...maybe go with a sirius tuner!

I see more Ford units losing the display than any other maker.

Maybe Visteon has bad designs (they should not burn out and should not require soldering at all IMHO)
