cat back side exit exhaust
cat back side exit exhaust
Does anyone know of a great cat back exaust single outlet side exit... almost like the stock exaust on a 5.4 -- 2001 supercrew
that has a great sound and do not need to mess with the spare tire... Gibson is the only one I have been able to find that bolts on without messing with the exhaust. I am not sure it will change the sound and performance as much as I would like.
Any help would be appreciated.

You might want to do a little research on the Borla System. I ordered a SISO system for my 2004 Supercrew and it fit as good or maybe better that the factory system. No messing with the spare at all. It took all of 20 minutes to remove the old system and install the new.
I think the Borla part number you need is 14925 (but I'm not 100 percent sure.
I did a quick search on my favorite "cheap parts" web site, and they have that part number available for $544.02 delivered to your door. (That price includes $20.00 for shipping)

I was disappointed when I picked up the new 2004 at the dealer. It was pretty sluggish compared to my 2001 SuperCrew. That seemed odd to me since the 04 has 3 valves per cylinder, some sort of fancy variable timing and 3.73 gears vs the 3.55 gears. Granted the 04's are heavier, but you'd think all of those things combined would have compensated for the weight. The 01 was, and the 04 is the vehicle that my wife drives to work every day. She's rarely comments about how a vehicle runs, so it surprised me when she mentioned how sluggish the 04 felt compared to her 2001.
Using the seat-of-the-pants method of judging power... I'd have to say there was a significant increase
The Borla system has a nice mellow rumble to it when you first start the engine. Then quiets down as soon as the engine idles back down. That same nice rumble comes back when you accelerate and when pulling a load. Out on the highway at cruising speed, you can hardly hear any change over stock sound.
As I mentioned before, installation was really simple. I backed the Screw up on the ramps, sprayed the hangers with WD-40, loosened the clamp on the pipe and had the OEM exhaust off in a matter of minutes. (the Screw only had about 1500 miles on it, so the pipe joint didn't have a chance to get corroded). Installing the new system was easier than removing the OEM system.
Regardless what exhaust system you decide to go with, I do not think you'll be dissappointed with the results.

I got mine from Full Line Exhaust about a year and a half ago. I'm sure there prices have gone up some, but they are very reasonable. I believe their website is www.fulllineexhaust.com
Devsdude,
My rims are stock as well. I'm dying to get some 17x9s or maybe 18s. I don't know if 18s would be going too big though. Post pics when you get a chance and good luck with your exhaust.
