Tire Sizes, mild upsize

Looking to replace the 255 70 16's. Anyone with a small up size to say 265 or 275 75's? They shold fit since plenty of people are goin up to 285's. Just want to fill the wheel well a bit more and not put too much tire in there resulting in loss of HP at the wheel.

thanks

Do you have a 4x2 or a 4x4? The 285/75-16's will fit on either truck, altough they will be a very tight fit on a 4x2. I'd suggest 265/75-16's if you have a 4x2 and 285/75-16 if you have a 4x4.

Thanks Wandell, its a 4X4 with the 5.4. Used for light farm / ranch work, rural hwy driving and of course pulling a horse trailer and the odd camper trailer. Live in Wisconsin so good snow grip is a must. Plan to buy Yoko Geolanders.

Upsize tires?

I went from the OEM 255R70X16s to 265R70X16s to get a little more tire and also an A/T (semi) "Dominator Sport A/T" from Discount Tire. It threw the odometer off about 2% and I have not seen any loss of power. I'm sure you could go to the 285s with your 4X4, but they will make a differance in shift points and power ( I would assume ). Good luck!

I just upsized to a set of 285/70/r17 Toyo ATs. The fit perrrrfectly. Really filled in the wheel wells and has a much better look. Did notice a slight drop in mileage but if I was concerned with mileage I would own a Toyota.

Mine came stock w/ 255/70R16`s & are falling apart. Went to Costco & ordered Dueler A/T Revos as big as they would put on: 275/70R16`s. I wanted the 75R16`s but they said no, they have a manufacturer`s list of all applicable tires & they wouldn`t do it!
No big deal, `cause I got a good deal--- $150 ea. installed. I`m just wonderin` how much my speedo will be off tho`. Anybody have a formula to figure it out??

MillerG,
I am looking at the same tires for my 02 Supercew 4x2. How do you like the Toyos. I am also looking at the BFG AT's. How did the size fit? Mine will be stock with 2" coil springs up front. Do you have any pics?

Any advice on 20" wheels going on an 02 supercrew fx4? Im not trying to go with a low pro tire, more like a 33, but thats just a guess. this is my first time buying truck rims/tires. Would this require a lift?

you shouldn't have a problem with 33" tires on 20" rims. However, depending on the width of the rim and the width of the tire tread, worst case scenario would be that you MAY have to trim your valance a little bit. I've got 33's (actually like 32.7) and I've got plenty of room. I do plan on tightening my torsion bars though just to raise the front end a little to match the rear end.

Hope this helps.

I've only had these tires for about a month so I can't really give a solid opinion. I've driven Cooper Discoverer AT's for years and absolutely loved them. When I went to get a set of 285/70/R17's, they didn't have that tire size. 17" rims are kind of an odd size I guess. I've heard the Toyo's are good tires but I will find out this winter when it starts snowing. As for highway driving... so far so good. I do like the tread design.

You won't need to lift your front end for these tires. I do plan on tightening my torsion bars a little just to balance the front wheel wells with the rear wheel wells. It is dark by the time I get home from work so I can't get you any pictures until this weekend.
