Angry Broken Windshields

Just wondering if any one else is having a problem with thier windshields getting chipped easily. I have a 2003 SC which I have owned for a year and a half, I have had to have two windshield replacements and 3 star repairs. Is this common with the supercrew? I jave never had this problem with any other car/truck. Any ideas as to how to solve this? Would a bug shield work?? Thanks.

SUV = > Chance for Cracked Windshields

My '03 got a crack in the windshield the second week I owned it...man was I PO'd. I got a windshield repair place to sieze the crack before it spread.

I'm generally pretty good about not following closely behind large trucks, etc, but this rock literally came out of no where...even to the point that I had originally thought a blew something under the hood. (The impact sound was so loud and the crack at the time was not visible from inside the cab).

SUV's/Trucks have a greater chance for cracked windshields because they're taller, and have the windshield in a more vertical position, thus increasing the amount of force absorbed on impact. (A higher sloped windshield would result in more of the force being directed away from the glass as the rock is deflected off the glass). Basic physics.

Either drive slower and stay away from big trucks w/phat tires, or learn to live with 'em.

Here I thought I was just having bad luck! I'm on my third window in two years. Just seems to be one of those things with this truck. Last crack appeared on its own it seems. Went out to go to work and there it was. I have a bug deflector and it seems to make no diffeence other than it looks nice.

A bug deflector is only designed to keep bugs and paint chips (from rocks) occurring on your HOOD!

It will be 3 years in January that I have had my SuperCrew and I am on my 4th windshield. I replaced my 1st windshield on 4/26/02. A small rock hit my windshield on the way to work. I saw no crack. When I left work, a crack ran from the driver's side to the passenger's side right in the middle. The very next day after having the windshield replaced, a bigger rock hit the windshield and it stared right away. I was out of town and no where near a phone book. So it cracked pretty much the same direction. I had the 2nd windshield replaced on 5/10/02. Abound 1 month later, I had a chip fixed. I then replaced the 3rd windshield on 2/21/03 because an owl went on a suicide mission right into the passenger's side of the windshield. About 2 months ago, I had 2 rocks hit the windshield. The first rock just left a chip in the windshield. But the last rock shot off 2 lines across the passenger's side. A 3rd line just formed. But I am not replacing the windshield until it spreads to the driver's side or my inspection tells me to. At first, I thought I had bad luck but lately I have been wandering about defects.

From November 2002

Mine is still perfect. I have been hit a few times, but no damage.

2002 without any windshield issues. Lost a windshield on my F-250SD about 5 years ago to a rock.

I've had three windsield replacements so far; took the bug deflector off and have not had any chips or breakage in over a year - go figure.
