Oil Change survey

Anyone do their own oil changes? Just wondering if it's worth it to do it myself?

I've always taken mine to the Goodyear deal down the road and just discovered they don't lube the two zereks on the front end. I'm pissed (I have yet to go over there and complain).

What kind of grease would I use to lube it?

Thanks,
Joe

Do mine with Amsoil every 10,000 miles.

Oh, of course I own the garage too...

I have always taken mine back to the dealer. The cost is pretty reasonable and you don't have to worry about disposing of used oil, etc. I got 12 free oil changes when I bought the truck and I've heard a lot of dealers are throwing this in just so you bring the vehicle back to them for all your servicing needs. Ford is getting very picky with warranty if you can't prove maintenance has been kept up so I find this easier and safer.

I've always done my own. I like to avoid the common problems the experts cause. It sounds like any multi-purpose grease would be better than what you've been getting.

I change my oil every 6000 with Mobil 1 synthetic. I hate for anyone else to touch my truck. I find it easier to do it myself than to hassle with taking it somewhere because of my schedule.

I let the dealership change the oil every 3000 miles. In and out in about 20 minutes, no dirty hands, free donuts, and don't have to deal with the used motor oil.

Dealership every 3 months. I don't rack up much mileage, but prefer to deal with it like aircraft maintenance (hours vs. miles).
Yes it costs a little more, and yes, it may be overkill, but I try to keep my vehicles for 10 or more years.

Oil Change?

I started out changing mine, but broke my neck in a fall and so now I take it to Wally World and watch them do it.

i use to always do my own. i still do on my 69 stang and my wife's 95 tbird. the reason i have the dealership do the truck is because the filter is in such a stupid place( i have the 4x4) it's hard to get a hold of to replace it. for $35 it's well worth it and i always get the fourth oil change for free( when you figure it out over a years time, they practically do it for the cost of the materials) they always give me a loaner anyways so i just pick it up at the end of the day.
