sound from roof

I picked my new (to me) truck this weekend that replaced my '97 scab. It's a toreado red '02 screw 4x4. So far I love it. I actually purchased it last weekend from out of town and it had a rock chip in the windshield so the dealership replaced it and I went back to pick it up friday. I drove it about 100 miles back to Richmond yesterday, no problems. I get in it this morning and it sounds like hard rain drops on a tin roof coming from the roof. I was driving under some trees so I thought maybe it is drops coming from the trees but when I got on the intersate I heard the same sound. It was raining but not that hard. My girlfriends sister was looking in the truck last night and I know she was looking at the overhead sunglass holder and all that stuff. Could she have broken something and now a bolt or someting is jumping around in the ceiling? What do you guys think my problem is.

That's a normal sound! These trucks have no insulation on the roof. Sounds like a snare drum in the rain.

Only options I found were turn up the radio or don't drive in the rain.....

I thought they would have had more insulation than that. I never heard that on my scab. You learn something new every day. The reason I thought something was wrong was because I drove in the rain yesterday and didn't hear a thing. That is exactly what I did, turned the music up. Now I have an excuse to blast the stereo except when my daughter is in the truck. So I guess there is nothing that can be done. Has anyone ever added insulation or anything?

If your girlfriends sister broke something in the overhead holders, it will make the noise regardless if it’s raining or not.

I've noticed the same problem with my Supercrew. I thought something was wrong with it when I first bought it, but I only hear the noise in the rain. . . so I assume the rain is the culprit.

found problem

found out what the problem is. The molding/window seal is coming up at the top of the window and flapping against the roof in the wind. When I stop it falls back into place.

There was a rock chip in the windshield when I was looking at the truck and asked the dealership to fix it before I bought it. They replaced the windshield and didn't do a good job sealing it I guess. I called them and they said to take it to a dealership near me and get any bills sent to them.

Looks like you had a extra noise problem then just the rain.

Glad to hear you found that problem and are getting it fixed for free.

Although you will still hear alot of sound from the roof when it's raining...Just the way these trucks were built.

Turn up the radio.
