front speakers need replaced ( 2001)
The factory front speakers in my 2001 Supercrew are starting to get "fuzzy" so I have decided to replace them. I am not planning on spending a fortune as this is basically my work and tow truck.
Anyone here changed theirs out, and how hard was it to get the damn door covers off?

I replaced mine with Alpine type S speakers when I replaced my head unit. I bought 2 pairs on ebay last year for about $150. I went ahead and replaced both front and back doors. It is not very hard to do. One thing that you will probably need if you do not want to cut and splice the original wires is an adapter to the plug for the factory speakers. I think they cost about $10 at Best Buy, just go ask the installation department.
I think that if you do a search, you can find how to take the doors off. If I wasn't in such a hurry to get to work, I would go through the details. I have the installation instructions from crutchfield at my parent's house somewhere.

I still have the stock speakers from my "premium sound system" that I replaced with Boston Acoustics FX8 models if you want to stay on the inexpensive route.
It is not hard at all to get the door panels off... I think there was a screw behind the light cover and one behind the window/lock control panel. Then the door lifts straight up. The window/lock control panel comes off by lifting the front of it up to pop the one clip that holds it down. The rear of it is held down by a tab that slides into the door panel.

I replaced my front and rear door speakerson my 2001, installed pinoeers in front doors (4 way) and sony in rears (2 way) with factory head unit, someday I may upgrade, the sound is much better
. The door panels are very easy to take off two screws on bottom and one behind window switch and on under bezel around inner pull handle and then door lifts straight up for all four it should not take longer then 1 hour to 1 hour and half
