Torsion Bar questions

From a new guy,
Ok..What are torsion bars? How do you adjust them? What does adjusting them do to the truck?
Pardon my ignorance.
Thanks
D

Torsion bars are the bars underneath your truck that run from middle of the cab to before the front wheels. There is a bolt on the underside of each torsion bar. You can tighten this to raise the front of your truck up, or loosen it to lower the front. It does make a difference in ride quality and you will need an alignment. On my old Mazda I had the torsions cranked 6.5 turns and was running 31"s it was nice.
