oil ?
Ive been using motorcraft 5w30 in my truck and was thinking about switching to 10w30 since it gets pretty warm here in the summer and I was told its better to have a thicker oil if its warmer temps? I dont really know anything about it what are your opinions and what is your take on this higher milege oil is it a marketing host or is it for real? My truck is ticking close to 100k and was wondering if I should use it or not Motorcraft doesnt have it so if I switch what should I use? Id appreciate the help.

I've been using Castrol GTX 10W30 for 30000 miles, but I just switched back to Motorcraft 5W20 (Ford recommended & synthetic). For some good into on oil check out: "http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/" More info' than you may ever be able to use, but very informative.
i use 5w20 Motorcraft in my 2003 5.4 year round,
all my other rides I use reg oil with 1 Qt. of SYNTHETIC added to it to give it a blend, this way i know how much of a blend i have where as when you buy (syn blend) you have know idea what the ratio is of syn

The Motorcraft 5W-20 is NOT synthetic, it's a blend. It does hold up well in used oil analysis. A lot of F150 owners are running M1 5W-30 for 5K and not having any problems. Would recommend that you use the Motorcraft filter, FL820S, these are good filters and made by Purolator.

Oil for what its worth
I have an 03 FX4 that I bought new a year ago. At that time I found a post on here that spoke about Mobil 1 10w-30 Full synthetic being a great oil for the 5.4L's. I used the same oil in my 99z28 LS-1 before I traded it for F150 and in both vehicles without any problems. I live is central florida between Tampa and Orlando so it gets fairly warm down here. My truck has 25k on it and I have been using that oil since my first oil change at 1500 miles. No complaints and I will continue to use it as I am a believer in the Mobil 1 synthetic product. I cannot speak about the quality versus other vescocities and brands all I can say is it works for me.....Gook Luck......
I have used M1 for years and have had no problems. As for filters, K&N has less than 3 PSI drop, better than most. I read it on a post from the thunderbird, cougar club of america web site. Simply, if you change your oil regularly, you should have no problem assuming you use a good quality oil.
