New mods installed
Well, I had a Merry Christmas. I got both the elec fans from Troyer performance, and the pulley's.
Just finished their install today, and am pretty impressed with the difference. It's definitly a much faster throttle response and the takeoff is a little quicker.
The instructions for the elec. fans say it should take something like 4 hours, which I totally disagre with. I guess it could be done if you were to throw these things in there and do some quick connect wiring. It took me about 16 hours or so to do this. There were a lot of interuptions, and that's also counting my wiring time while wathcing a movie. I think working steady it would take about 8 to 12 hours for a quality install. At the same time I installed the pulleys.
I'll try to snap some shots this week and post them in my gallery for everyone to see. This is a nice mod, I would definity recommend this for the to do list.
One warning about the pulley install, I had to grind a stud off the block so the water pump pulley wouldn't rub. I was not aware that this had to be done. That took a lot longer than I thought it would, and I tried to keep as much as I could without going to far. A lot of trial and error.
Take care all, Happy Holidays!

Hey ralderman,
Do your lights go dim at idle , with pulleys when the fans kick on ?
I just installed my fans (6.5 hours) and was wanting to do the pulleys but thought it might cause problems or seem goofy at idle .
Also did you connect one fan to the A/C ? If so why ?
I think the fans are a great mod.

I'm not answering for ralderman, but I have an '01 'Screw with the 5.4.
I installed the Flex-A-Lite 270 electric fan kit (4 hours, complete) and the Troyer ASP pulley set.
My headlights do dim when I am idling in gear, even when the fans are not on. (My idle is around 550 - 600 RPMs in gear)
Once I hit 700 RPMs or so, not dimming at all. If I idle in Park, everything is good.
As far as why connect the AC to the fans, you need to pull air through the A/C condensor when you are using it. If you are not moving and the AC is on and the truck isn't warmed up yet, the fans won't run and the AC will blow warm air. If you are moving 25 MPH or more, there is enough airflow.
Obviously, after the truck warms up, the fans run off and on so the condensor is happy anyway.

Hey B-man,
Thanks for the reply .
Yes the truck is not warmed up yet, that's kinda the point. When you turn on defrost mode the A/C compressor kicks in , along with the fan. I'm not sure I would want that in a cold area when you are trying to warm-up the engine.
As far as warm climate I kind of see the point but most people don't try to warm-up their truck for extended periods before driving.
It's one of those difficult questions . I suppose I could install a switch for winter or summer.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. I do notice some dimming at several different times.
1. When sitting at a stop light with the lights and heat on there considerable dimming. If a fan kicks on you see the lights drop further for a second during the initial startup of the fan.
2. When driving with lights and heat on, I notice the lights dim quickly when the fan kicks on, the back to normal. It just quick enough to notice, and make you wonder if your seeing things.
3. Another quirk if you will was when I first started my truck, the radio was on the default 87.7fm, or whatever and I could hear the fan freq through the radio. It doesn't bother any other channels so far.
I like the mods, the produce a lot of horsepower and the engine spins up a lot quicker. I have actually spun the tires several times in places that normaly would have just grabed and went. This is on brand new tires as well so I'm very impressed and happy. I would say that this is the second best mod I have done, first being the Superchip.
BTW CanyonSlicker, I connected to the A/C because of the recommendation of others and Mike Troyer. When the AC is on, air needs to move through the coils.
