Thumbs down horrible seat!

Okay, so I just bought a 2001 supercrew 4x4 and love the truck, but it has a 60/40 front seat without power and it is the most uncomfortable thing I have ever been in. Too low and the bottom tilts back making you feel like you are sitting in a wedge. Can a power bucket seat be purchased from a salvage yard and installed on the drivers side only? Does that wiring harness already carry power to the underside (with the seatbelt sensor).
I spoke with the dealer who , of course said, they had never heard of someone doing that, but I have tried raising the bolts anchoring the seat to the floor as well as the track to the seat pillars. I really want to keep the 60/40, but want to have a power drivers seat.... I don't care what color, just if it is functional!! HELP!!!!!

I guess the beaming question here is: why did you get it if you dispise the seats so much?

Anyway, I'm not 110% sure on this but, I don't think that you can remove half of the bench seat and put a bucket in there. You can, however, replace the entire front with two buckets and a center console (I THINK).

Best of luck and I hope ownership gets a little better for you.

great question!!!
price was right, just moved back into country and needed a
car ASAP and this was perfect in every aspect, but the power seat, so I went for it... Don't get me wrong, I love the truck, but am still trying to get the seat so it fits like a glove, that's all. I think you are right, after studying it, it looks like I would have to put 2 buckets up front, instead of just one. I was just wondering if anyone else on the forums had similar problems with ford seats, and what they did to fix it...

Bench seat

I think you'll have to replace it w/ an electric 60/40 bench seat. Should be able to locate one at a scrape yard somewhere.

I did not think that Ford offered a power 60/40 split bench seat.
If that is the case, then I will definately try that!

thanks!!

My 97 was a 60/40 power drivers side, and my 02 is a 60/40 power drivers side also. They are out there. I think it came as an option on the XLT and standard on the Lariat.

Mine has a 60/40 leather power seat. My father has the same truck with heated/power captains chairs. Both of us prefer the seat in my truck.

I'm with ya nshoag, I hate the seats (60/40) in my '01. They're cushy enough, but don't offer enough support for me. I slide all over the place when turning and the pass. seat is even worse. I can pretty much find a good position having power on the driver's seat, but my wife absolutely hates them. She always tells me, "As soon as you find some good seats, PLEASE buy them. You have my blessing." I'm still searching for some that offer power, height, side bolster and back support, direct fit, and color matched or at least a combo I wouldn't mind switching to. If I come up with anything, I'll share.

My 01 Screw came with a 60/40 bench with six way power adjustment and lumbar adjustment. You should be able to find one in a salvage yard. I would suggest finding a seat out of an 03, 02 or late 01 production(generation III) truck. They have more of a side bolster, like buckets do and are not flat like the early 01 seats.

same here

seats are absofreakinlutely my only complaint about my 03 supercrew. WHAT WERE THEY THINKING????
Was Ford hoping that everyone would just upgrade to the multiple F-250 seat options???

Sorry, I'm done now. Good luck with your seat findings, anything will be better than stock!

Okay, so I feel better, the seat problem is not unique to me.
I will start looking in the salvage yards for a power seat.
Does anyone know if that harness under the seat is universal and has power for the seat, not just the seatbelt?
Also, for those having problems, here is what I have done so far..
I raised the mounts to the floor and the sliders on those mounts by about 3/4 inch each (large washers and nuts as spacers).
Then, I have folded a small wool blanket accordian style 3x in the back, by the backrest, then 2x in the middle, then flat in the front.
This has helped the most in taking out that terrible slant bacwards that I feel like I am falling into. I also took 2x4's about 18-20inches long and put them under the seat to stiffen up the springs under the seat... this also helped a bunch. Anyway, I hope this helps those hoping for a more comfortable ride!!

I have the 40/60 seat with the 6 way power and the manual lumbar adjust. I have to say that these seats are not the most comfortable but I am 6'4".

It tkaes me a while to find that right spot where it is comfortable for my back and my legs feel cramped with the high sides on the seat.

I have had the truck for over 2 years now (2001 GEN III) and the cloth seats have held up well especially considering I weigh over 250 pounds.

I need to look for some extra back support though.
