FINALLY, getting a Super Crew, one BIG question

Well it's time for my 1994 T-Bird to go. It's been good love affair since 94 but she's not much of a family truckster.

So on Friday I pick up my 2001 F150 Supercrew. She has some high miles but I only drive about 5,000 a year so I won't be doing much long distance driving or long distance towing.

Question, would you buy an extended warranty? she has 78,000 on her now, 2wd, 5.4L with the tow package. It's had regular maintance and very little towing done with it. My credit union offered a 24 month-24k mile warranty plan for $1200.00, I don't know all it's details yet.

Are there any know issues with the 2001's that happen as the milage gets higher...

It's in really great condition and it's mechanically sound as far as I can see.

Thanks, and I'm so happy to be a F150 owner.

Wow, thats a lotta miles on an 01

Mine only has 26,000.

When I bought it, They offered a 7 year 70,000 after my 3-36 ran out for about 900.00. That was the Ford ESP plan. I'm sure the more miles you have, the more it will cost you, so I'm not sure if thats a good deal or not.

I have a 2001 S'Crew and i bought the warranty....not sure why.....if you do want to buy one, definately do a search for Gene Louder on these forums. I bought mine from him, he works at a ford dealership in Texas I believe. 100 over cost....who knows if it actually is but it was way less than a local dealer......even give him a call, find out his price and see if the dealer will match it.....just don't over pay for a warranty.........you may never use it..... Try this link....

I bought a 01 screw 6 months ago with 35k on it, I did buy an extended warranty 6 yrs 100k which pretty much covers everything but brakes, it cost me $1,400. Since then I have had to have the complete power sun roof replaced to the tune of $1,500 and just recently got a new starter and rear end rebuild at $1,600. Both of these were completely covered by the warranty. In my case it has been well worth it. You just never know. Good luck and enjoy your new truck,

An extended warranty is a piece of mind thing, and if will help you sleep at night, go ahead and get one. There is always the possibility you will have no issues with your Screw.

The plan the credit union is offering is not competetively priced. You can find more than 2yr/24K of coverage for $1200. Do some shopping around.

High miles - that ain't nuthin!!!! I have 95K on my '01!!!

Anyways, I did buy the extended warranty for mine when it was new because I knew the factory warranty would run out in a year and a half.

That is a lot of money for a two-year warranty. I didn't pay that much for my 100K warranty.

Another idea - pay one of those car inspectors to look the vehicle over before you agree to purchase it. They only cost $100-200 and if they find anything, have the dealer fix it before you take delivery.

I've noticed that a fair number of Ford trucks and SUVs with mileage similar to yours have had to have the "permanently lubricated" ball joints replaced. But that seems to cost in the neighborhood of $500 - $700. The $1200 number seems pretty high. Personally I would take my chances rather than pay it.

high miles

we have a '97 f150 at work, ext-cab 3-door 4.6L xlt, (the bosses old truck), it has 179,000 miles on it and it still runs real strong. matter of fact it runs as good (or better) than his 2001 5.4L x-cab 150, i cant believe how that '97 runs. must be one of those "fluke" things? they both have 3:73 gears......(only prob. with '97 is you can hear balljoints squeaking....ouch)
