Driver door handle removal

Has anybody removed the drivers side door handle? I ordered a new handle with the keypad for unlocking the doors installed on it and what to install it when it comes.

Talking

rogone,

I researched this mod a while back when considering it for the wife's E250 Conversion van (my Lariat already has a keypad).

Anyway, I don't think you have to take the door handle off

Good luck with the mod.

Thanks Wattman. I was aware of the wireless transmitter but decided to go with the factory installed look (it actually was cheaper than not doing so) and the keypad is installed on the door handle with a wireing harness that plugs into the existing wiring.

Go to:

http://www.svtlightnings.com/

Then look for the "How to" section on the left side, then "Keyless keypad".

Looks like a good "how to", including pictures.

Anytime rogone! Hope it helped, never thought about it, but maybe the L is different from the regular cabs and SCrews. Doubt it though.

Sorry rogone, I didn't know there were two options for the keypads. Didn't mean to give you bad info.

Rogone,
I did this mod a couple of years ago, it was fairly straight forward. Take off the door panel, two bolts that hold the handle in and install your new handle with the key pad, run the cable to the connector and press a couple of buttons to make sure your connected. A little bit of loc-tite on the handle screws for good luck......I remember how i hated taking my new truck apart though.
Good Luck

Thanks S'CrewLoose, I'm just a little nervous about doing this. I looked at the link that serotta provided and am begining to think I may be in for more than I bargined for. It sounded like getting to the screws, or atleast one of them, to take the handle off is not real straight forward due to interferences. By the way, I have seen that the 4 digit code is under the dash some where but its not clear where I need to look or if I need to take anything off to see the number. Anybody know?

rogone,

If you are just a little mechanically inclined you can accomplish this mod. The screw you are talking about is a little obscure........it is not difficult to get at, just difficult to see if you don't have prior knowledge...you have that......to find your code....and it is a 5 digit code not 4...or at least mine and all others I know of are five.......that may have changed...anyway, if you look up under your dash, sort of above and behind the brake petal, you will see an off white box...maybe 4x5 inches....it will have a few different number codes on it...the 5 numbers in LARGE DIGITS is your code......you can program your own code, but programming your own code will not disable the factory code....in other words your computer can store 2 codes, one permanent and one changeable.......hope this helps

rogone,

Check out this thread for information on how to find the factory set code on the computer module under your dash---->>> https://www.f150online.com/forums/sh...ht=keypad+code

Here is a pic where someone is pointing the general area of the module --->> https://www.f150online.com/galleries...2028-45320.jpg

Good Luck! Hope this helps.

S'Crewloose is correct:
It's a five digit code, and it is under the driver's side dash. It's a permanent code that you can't erase, but you can program another code in also.

Thanks guys. I'll have to go look at work or tomorrow (if its dark when I get home) and try to find the box with the code.

Here is a more under the GEM picture, there were 2 of them when I took them for the member from Japan. The white / cream colored item is the GEM itself ( obscured so my 5 digit code is not posted for all to see )

There are a few small differences that I found doing a SCrew keypad vs the one from Doug's site. I took some pictures, and added text to them in this ablum, about half way down :

Good luck, hope you get / got it done.
