7/70 Ghost Warranty??
7/70 Ghost Warranty??
So I was getting my oil changed today (yeah, yeah, I know do it yourself, I just havent had time) and the "mechanic" starts telling me about this "unadvertised 7 year, 70,000 mile warranty that Ford offers when if they have to replace a major component costing more than $300.
The reason why this came up is because my service engine light went on recently ('02 Screw 46,000 miles) and I havent had a chance to have it diagnosed yet. This is also the same guy who gets in my truck and says, "Hey, ya notice yer service injun light is on?" *No, I couldnt figure out what the big yellow SERVICE ENGINE SOON meant*
Anyway, he then proceeds to tell me to take my truck to Ford and they will fix whatever is causing the service engine light to come on, as long as it costs more than $300. I then asked him even if my 3/36 warranty is expired? He says, "yes."
Obviously, I am having an extremely difficult time believing this and have sworn off Oil Changer facilities. This is also the same place where the other "mechanic" told me that he could tell my tranny needed service after smelling the fluid. My tranny was serviced less than 10k miles earlier.
No longer will these "mechanics" entrusted to the delicate maintenance of my baby.
Whats the consensus on this "ghost warranty?"

If you still have your warranty booklet you should read about the emissions warranty. A CEL generally is covered for 70K. The only way to find out is to have them do the usual service write up for the usual hourly inspection fee to tell you what it is. Or go to the local autozone or kragen to see if they will read the CEL for you.
Good luck,
Mike
