Saying so long
I finally did it. I traded in my 2001 (4x2) Screw for a (dare I say it ) Duramax. It had 51,500 wonderful miles on it. The fact that it needed new tires, the drivers side seat was worn out, the shocks needed to be replaced and it had a scratch running from the back door to the corner of the tailgate wasn’t the issue. I mainly got rid of it due to the amount of trailer duty it was receiving which worried me. The thing I will miss most though is the support this website has provided me over my ownership experience. Many of you have aided me time and time again. I just wanted to take this opportunity and say thanks to you all. I promise that if I figure out how to get a discount through Ford or if I no longer get one through GM you will see me again. I loved this truck.
Can I ask one final favor though? I need to setup my hitch for my new truck and i need a mesurment from the ground to the bottom of the receiver. Once again it will be much appreciated.

Sorry to hear you got rid of your SCrew. Do you get a discount on GM products? Is that why you bought the Duramax rather than the Cummins or Powerstroke. I'm currently looking at the 03 2500 Rams with the H.O. Cummins, not as a replaceent for the SCrew but as an addition. Good luck with the new truck and just remember, real trucks don't have spark plugs.
The incentives on the Duramax are much better than the new Powerstoke. That is a great truck and engine - I don't think you'll be disappointed. The only thing I do not like abut HD trucks with diesels is the gearing. Great for towing a house at 65mph, but sucky for not towing at 85mph. Since I don't tow houses nor do I tow often, a LD gas engine is better suited for me. enjoy your truck!
For the hitch, I recommend getting an adjustable height hitch. I have one and love it. A good friend of mine has a 2003 3/4 ton Duramax pickup. His bed height is 1-2" taller than my trucks. I woud guess the hitch is about the same amount higher.

Naturally, we hate to see you go but, on the flip side of that coin, it sounds like you got a VERY nice new truck...
Don't be a stranger and pop in whenever you can.... and most of all, enjoy that new truck!

Thanks for all of your farewells. As for the discount question, Yes I do. Here is the lowdown. 44k list. 37k after discount, additional 5200, in rebates and add back in a 1k for the extended warranty 7yr 75k miles bumper to bumper. And of course the tax man got his too. The warranty is probably a waste but I am a little concerned about the leather not to mention the fuel pump.
As far as the gearing goes it has a red line of 3200 and sits on 2200 at 75. That is not exactly what I call lopping along but it will do as long as the fuel mileage doesn’t get too bad. I here the mileage starts off bad and gets better. At this point if the trip computer is telling me the truth I am getting about 1.5 mpg better than the screw. I already miss the ride of the Screw though. I am going to have to work on that one I guess. Perhaps about 200 lbs of sand in the back will do the trick.
I thought about the Ford but with the money difference and the loudness of it, I prefer what I got. Don’t get me wrong the Ford is just about as quiet on the open highway but it is when it is sitting still that it gets to me.
The Dodge already has a history in my family and if I ignored their advice I might end up looking for a new family. (although 3 still drive them and one still likes his.)
As for the bumper question I have an adjustable equalizer hitch but I was hoping to take the drive it to a level parking lot and adjust it out of the equation by just comparing the height of the old to the new and moving the pins on it.

Invoice price on a Chevy with similar equipment is about the same as Ford X-plan price. Plus, he gets employee price which probabyl saves abouther $1500. Then, rebates. GM = 3000, Ford 1500. Bonus cash for GM is you already own one.
