My family is growing quickly. I love my '02 supercab 4X4, but it's getting too small for my 4 and 2 year olds in the back seat. I've found some great deals on '03 Supercrew 4X4's, same trim level as my S-Cab (basic xlt equip.) I'm worried about the bed though. I hate to give up the 6.5' bed I have now. I don't haul much, but when I need it (home depot, bikes, lumber yard, landscaping etc) I really am glad I have it. I've even contemplated going for a new Ram, keeping the full bed, but getting a smaller rear seat, but I love my Ford so much.

So, I guess I'm looking to hear testimonies of what you S-Crew owners have and have not been able to put in your beds. I really want to stay with the Blue Oval.

 

I love the S-Crew bed! I don't haul much myself, but if I ever need a longer bed, the bed extender takes care of it Go with the Blue Oval! You won't regret it! Good Luck!

 

verry nice truck my dad has a 02 and it is verry nice. i am 6foot1 and i fit in the back niceley so there will be room for your kids when they get older.

 

Not a problem for us, so far. For the few times you'll want a longer bed for hauling long boards, you can buy a small trailer for around $500. Good for taking stuff to the dump without messing up your truck bed.

We have a shell on ours, which makes hauling some items impossible. That's why we have a small trailer for those type items.

I recently traded a 98 SuperCab for a 01 Screw. I, like you, was initially concerned about the shorter bed length. However, if you're like me, you're hauling the family way more than hauling sheets of plywood from Lowe's. When I do haul things like plywood, I just put the tailgate down and strap everything in well. You just have to consider what the truck will be used most for. Good luck!

traded a scab for a screw. I bought mine in June and it hasn't been a problem. I have the bed extender but haven't had to use it. I like having a truck to move stuff when I want. Unless you do a real lot of hauling long things, trade up, you'll be glad u did...

 

I too have a growing family, went from a regular cab 8' bed to an 03 Super Crew for the very reason I needed passenger room. Both were XLT only. There was a minor moment with the 03 Super Crew when I was helping a friend move last week in whch something would not fit in the bed. Other then that it has met the primary need of hauling the family in comfort and style. The bed difference you are looking at is minor. The instances of the bed being to small for your needs will be very rare along with the fact you will be getting slightly better mileage with the Ford.

 

The bed is on the small side but I own a wood shop and haul lots of 4x8 plywood and 10 foot lumber with the gate down. I have a low profile tool box and can slip plenty of wood below it. Just cant haul my atv but have two trailers for that. I have an '01 screw and love the thing. I also hunt elk and it is a good 4x4 especially with my ramsey winch. Good luck.

 

Just go out and buy one! If you need to haul a LOT of stuff, rent a truck from Home Depot. That way you will not mess up your brand new Screw!!!!

I have an '01 SCrew, and it serves me very well. I've hauled everything from a dozen sheets of plywood to my Kawi ZX-11 motorcycle in the bed without an issue. If you want to move your household belongings to a new location, a pickup isn't really the tool you'd want to use for that job anyway. As Jaguar mentioned, buy a SCrew. You'll be glad your did!

Thetruck is great and plenty of room inside and in the bed for most use. I have hauled my 4 wheeler and I am able to carry my racing Lawnmower. I may have to lower the tailgate but big deal.
Its just too great of a truck to worry about the small bed.

 

its a prob for me because i just started my own bussiness and my toolbox from my ext-cab wont fit but im buying my neighbors 6x12 cargo trailer next week. the room inside makes a hell of a difference. ive only had the new super crew 3 days and i cant belive how nice it is to have all that room on the inside.

 

Put my 4 wheeler up in it all the time!

I too needed the crew cab. Bought the screw and the bed hasn't been a problem. (yet) I'm going to put my toolbox in it this week so I'll have about a 3' box. A guy I work with bought the hemi, he only gets 18 mpg on a good day. Also his $1000 infinity stereo makes the interior rattle.(there's quality) "Dodge" the name says it all.

 

More of the same. I bought my supercrew after riding in the back seat of someone else's, and seeing how great/comfortable as well. Had a minor concern with the bed. But have found its a rare issue, vs. the pleasure of the roomy comfortable cab every day. My kids love it. I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
