Question Hypertech Power Programmer

If anyone out there has purchased one of these Power Programmer I would be interested to hear your opinions on them. I am very close to purchasing one and want to know if you would do it all over again? Do they leave a trace on your computer? Can the dealer pick up on it? I see that Pep boys sells them, is there a better place to buy? I really like the tire size correction because I am about to go to 285's. You responses would be appreciated.

I ordered one last week. Will have it monday. Will let you know. From what I have heard they are great! Good increase. Also the dealer will not be able to tell if you set it back to stock settings and take out the programmer. It will leave no trace that I know of. Order it on the internet. Got mine for 299 shipped. Search under google for "hypertech buy" and it should be the first or second one. I also need it for tires and wheels (305/55/22's), but I have heard that it will help out alot with shift performance and some increases with throtle response. Hope this helps.

I heard it leaves codes on the computer, but they can be cleared with a code reader, not those cheap ones you buy at autozone, but a quality one

I have had my Power Progammer installed for about 3 months now. So far, I do feel it helps a bit with midrange (passing) power and provides much firmer shifts (almost too hard as my belts squeal loudly when it shifts from first to second). But I don't think it's worth the almost $400 price tag as the performance gain is pretty minimal, and you have to run much pricier premium gas. I guess I was hoping for not only seat of the pants feel, but actual performance gains that can be seen on the street (still getting dusted by Silverados and Tundras from a stand still...ugh). Anyway, just my experience.

Then you should have gotten a SuperChips Programmer. I have beaten both from a standing start with my '01 and MicroTuner, as well as with my previous truck, a '99 SCab 4x4 with the SuperChips module.

Oh yeah...and I get better fuel mileage over stock with the tuner also!

Cheers.

chicagoford.............

I am not going to tell you what you should buy, but let me give you some advice from a long-time Ford truck owner.

Before you buy a pricey item like this...do your homework!
Don't buy the first thing you see. Take your time and research it.

Go to the Computer Chips section of our forums and read...read....read. Yes, the Chips forum is skewed toward the SuperChip....but it is for a good reason.

You will find some ppl who like the Jet or the Diablo, or the Hypertech, but most prefer the SuperChips. There is alot of good, independent information there regarding our trucks' programming options from F-150 owners who have all these different brands of chips/programmers.

Don't just look at the current posts. Search the threads for all the brands of chips/programmers and read the results. Then make your decision.

Good luck and I hope you are pleased with whichever brand you choose!
