Wheel and Gear Question

Got a question. I have an 03 F150 4x4 Screw and I wa wondering what gears I have stock? One more question... What gears should I up to with my 22 inch rims? Do I even need to upgrade? What would be the benifits? Thanks.

If you have 17" wheels, you have 3.73:1. If you have 16" wheels, 3.55:1.

Tire size determines gearing, not rim. I have no idea what kind of tire sizes are availible for 22 inch rims, but you cna use a tire calculator to figure out what will be close enough to not change gears. For instance, if you have 265/70R17 stock, 315/40R22 would be close.

Thanks for the help. I had the crappy 16 inch wheels on it. Anybody know what the size of the tires where on there? I sold them today, so i dont know. Thanks.

Also would going to 4.10 gearing make a difference? Would it help or hurt? I already had te speedo calibrated using the hypertech, so would I have to change it for the 4.10 gears if I up'ed to them? Thanks again.

4.10 gears compared to 3.55 is significant. You'll notice it, all else equal.

The old tires were probably 255/70R16.

!

I have a 2002 XLT 4x2 Screw with the stock 17" 10-spoke aluminum wheels (kinda looks like the old Expy wheels and have the plastic chromed center caps) If I have the 3.73's, where on my truck can I look to verify this? I was just wondering since I thought this whole time I had the 3.55's. Thanks

You have 3.55 gears. Just for '03 did that quote apply. However, you can look at the axle code on the sticker on the driver's door that also lists recomended tire pressures. Here are the codes:

19 = 3.55 open
H9 = 3.55 LTD
26 = 3.73 open
B6 = 3.73 LTD
27 = 3.31 open
18 = 3.08
25 = 4.10 open
B5 = 4.10 LTD
