Smile Auto Dimming Mirror - Final Touch

I finally put the finishing touch on my auto dimming mirror install tonight.
Before:

After:

I ordered two abs plastic pieces(from GM) that cover the wires and I "Gorilla Glued" them together to make a piece long enough to go from the mirror to the headliner. Just thought I would share my latest joy.

I've asked my local Ford shops if I can get the automagic dimming installed on my 02 F-150 XLT 4x4. I seem to keep getting conflicting information from both places. Then I see it added here.

One of them says "Well you do not have the relays for it." Relays? Why not tap power from the temp display?

Anyway, been searching for info here and this is the first thread I found about it. Suggestions on how to add (I'd dump the $ on new hardware) it to my truck?

My understanding is that it just needs a small power source and that the power that is already in the overhead display is adequate.

I haven't looked at any wiring schematics but, I'd say it'd work.

Plus, they sell aftermarket self dimming mirrors... seems to me that it must be pretty simple. Even if it's not, getting a wire up there from the fuse block or off of another circuit wouldn't be hard in the least.

I pop back in for like the first time in a month or two and one of my post is front and center. Something must have sparked me to check in.

It can easily be done as you can see by my post. These mirrors should be available at most salvage yards for cheap. You just need to make sure you get one that does NOT have a temp/compass since most or all of the F150's have these I think.

I can give you the proper wiring instructions including what pins(contacts) to use on the mirror and what wires I tied it into for the console display.

Edited to add link of previous post on subject...
