5w30 mobil 1 ok to use?

is 5w30 mobil 1 ok? i know there are 5w20 synthetics around but the place doing the oil change did not have it.

also, how long are people who use synthetics keeping their oil in for? the place i just used said that it still needed to be changed at 3k with i can't believe is true.

tia,
mike

Interesting comments from "Labnerd"

I used 5w20 motorcraft you can get these from local Wal Mart store for about $1.80/QT or if you want full synthetics Mobil 1 make 0w20 and you can get these from Wal Mart as well

I use Mobil 1 5W30 in my '02 (which calls for 5W20) since first oil change and absolutely no problems. Do a search on this topic and you'll be reading from now until Christmas...of 2005!! It really comes down to what you like and decide to go with. Can't go wrong no matter what you use. Personal Preference. I change mine every 5000. I use Mobil 1 in everything I have ever owned and have probably a combined mileage of well over 200,000 miles on Mobil 1 products without any engine problems what so ever.

I have used nothing else but Mobil1 5w30 since the first oil change in my '99 SCab (put 75000 miles on that truck) and now on my '01 SCrew (50000 miles so far). I change oil around 7000 miles. It may not be worth the extra cost for full synthetic, but I don't care. I like to think that I am giving my truck the best oil on the market.

I am by no means educated in the perticulars of engine oil, but I do have a problem with 0 weight oil. It just makes no sense to me to put 0 weight oil in an engine. After all.....WATER has a viscosity of 0.000891 . Just my own opinion.

Personally I don't think it matters that much. I use Havoline 5w-20...it supposedly reduces friction more that a 5w-30 does.

I don't know, I get 18 MPG about 50/50 of city and highway...maybe it does make a difference.

I think you're fine.
