Frontend Protection - Options?

I'm looking at putting a Bra or similar on the front of my truck as the highway miles are going to begin to mount. And, as we all know, highway miles = rock chips.

Is a Bra the way to go? Anyone have one? Pics?

I like the idea of the film type applications however; the price is a bit much. I'd like to keep it below $150 and have the option to pop it off and on.

Suggestions?

Bras...

I have always known to stay away from Bra's, not just because I am a guy but also becuase dirt will get under the bra and scuff the paint all up...

So RP, I'd say you should get a bra.. One for your truck also.

RP-
I owned two of the old 356 Porche coupes back in the day when bras were in. I'd recommend against one on your KR, knowing how particular you are about the look of your truck. Here's why:

Dust and dirt under the contact points on the bra will scratch the paint, even as careful as you are; this can happen.

I've heard (though it never happened to me) that moisture followed by extreme heat can cause the paint to craze or pop off under the bra. That would suck.

Repainting or airbrush retouching chipped paint is superior to a bra as far as I'm concerned. And I just don't like the way they look nowadays. Particularly on a beautiful KR.

I think the best bet would be a bug deflector. It won't provide 100% protection, but I think it is the best option. The bra will block the sun whereas the rest of the paint will fade. If you ever took it off, it would look bad. Not to mention, the bra does rub off paint in some areas if it is not 100% snug and even then it could still scuff the paint.

RP -

I had an integra back in college with a bra - what a pain...always cleaning out the dirt that collects inside. Never again.

For the 'crew, I've been looking into "clear bras" - the thin transparent film that covers the nose of the truck. My local "clear bra" dealer wants $350 and like you, I think that's too much. Then I found one on e-bay. I didn't buy it at the time, but saved the e-mail address of the seller. He's starting up a business to sell these . . . just drop line to Cliff Griffin (cliffgriffin@yahoo.com). He quoted me $142.56 + $10 s/h which includes instructions and all necessary supplies for an install. Tell him Ken V. sent you . . .

Fine Print: I am not cliff. I don't know cliff. I don't sell clear bras or anything else for that matter. You're on your own. I assume no resposibility for the outcome.

Thanks for all the replies guys...

sooo_alive, I'll contact that guy to see if he can help me out. I'm interested in the film type however; I'm really worried that any rock that hits it just right will puncture/tear the film and thus, leave me with a fugly covering that is very difficult and expensive to replace.

Yes... especially for something that I don't think looks very good....

I guess I'm going for functionality here... not looks.

I found a Ford bra for you here. Still don't recommend one based on above feedback.

The Invinca-Shield with the custom requested longer hood piece is cheap at about $75. That includes 20% discount until midnight tonight. It can be removed if you'd like. If a rock does penetrate the film and scratch the paint, you can remove the film piece, fill in the paint chip, and get a new clear bra piece for $75.

Thanks APT. I appreciate the input.

Not sure I like that particular type of bra as I'd much rather have something for the FULL front end.

I'm leaning more towards the film but, I'm still worried about it. I don't want an ugly 'seam' or 'line' where the film ends.

I guess I'd just feel better about the film if I could see it in an actual application.

Maybe there is a local installer that you could stop by and watch, or see someone else's vehicle done already.

Don't even have one here in town that I was able to locate.

Looks like the closest one is about 30 mins down the road.

Rockpick,

I saw them do a film application from 3M on the powerblock on TNN a couple of weeks ago. I believe it was on Trucks. Anyways, I saw how they did it, and it looked great to me. You can only see a thin line if you look up close on the paint. It looked good to me, at least on TV.

Thanks Decoy...

I'm still not sure...

It just seems like any sand scuffs or anything of that nature that I may bet behind the bra (vinyl) would be pretty easily fixed with a quality polish. I can't envision the paint getting gouged to the point that I couldn't make it work and look good.

AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! This is driving me nuts.
