Replacement Tire Suggestions/BFG Long Trail TA

I need to replace (35k miles) my original tires. I have the General tires that came stock with the truck. I was wanting some suggestions. I have been looking at the BFG Long Trail T/A's. Sam's Club has them for about $105 each. I would like to stay under $120. I use my truck mainly around town. I do tow a small popup occasionally and hit the beach every so often. I don't need A/T's but would like a little better traction in the dirt/sand. Any suggestions would be appreciated and if anyone has any info on the BFG Long Trails that would be helpful also. Thanks - LouScrew

I don't have any experience with 2wd truck tires, but I have read good things about the Long Trail T/A tires.

New tires on a truck always look good regardless of the brand!

I've really liked my BFG A/T KO's. I got them one size larger than stock in a 285 X 70 X 17. These tires have been great but run a little more than the Long Trails.

Spring for the A/T's.... you'll be happy you did.
What's another 75 bucks? You can't even take the wife to Wal-mart for the difference. Buy 'em, You deserve them!! (plus, they make your truck look terrific!)

Hey Gearhead...about those BFG's......

I'm looking at getting a set of those for mine so I was wondering how the 285's are working out versus the 265's if you have 3.55 gears. Also how is the noise with those.

Thanks a lot.

Screwdriver,

They aren't a noisy tire, they aren't a Michelin Highway tread either. I can't hear them over my tunes (which aren't all that loud) ever. If I have the windows down and the radio off I can hear the tires. Yes, I have the 3.55 gears. I've got most of the available bolt-ons (short of a huffer) added to my truck. Torque and Horse Power loss aren't a concern at all. I don't think the average guy would notice much of a difference. I did have the Speedo recalibrated with my SuperChip to keep the M.P.H. correct. The Tri-Guard sidewall and Rancho RSX's make it ride a little stiffer, I kinda like that.

I replaced my factory tires with the new Michelin Cross-Terrains. OMG these tires are impressive! I'm buying another set of them after I wear them out, no doubt. Yes, they are technically SUV tires, but they're great for 2wd trucks.

Aggressive tread, but not crossing the line into 4wd tires. Not loud, good temp. rating, speed rated to 130mph. The best part is wet weather driving, no more loose rear end. Definitely check them out.

Lou...
I have a 2001 SCrew, 2x4, XL5, 3.55LS & TowPackage. Mostly city/hwy driving and monthly camping pulling a 5500# travel trailer usually 600 to 1200 mile round trips... I just replace my stock General tires with the BF Goodrich Long Trail T/A tires and couldn't be happier.. I replaced with the LT255/70R16 Load Range D... Better than the stock P series in load range. Just a tad bit taller (no change to effective towing gear ratio) and they ride very nice.
