Side Mirrors
Question?
My Side Mirrors on my 2002 supercrew XLT are chrome... Can You paint that? Can you get just a replacement part to replace the chrome not the whole Mirror?
Can you also paint the chrome around the grill? If so how did you guys do this? What type of paint did you use?
Thanks

HealyJS01,
In stead of trying to paint over the plastic chrome, I ordered a new set from Fordpartsonline.com They were like 25.00 for both sides, come in plain ABS black plastic.
Then get yourself some primer, paint and clear coat with Flex added, and paint them yourself. Take your time and sand them between coats. If you don't want to look for a local Sem or PPG shop to mix it for you, try paintscratch.com. Make sure to get flex added to all 3.
Remove the old set, and put on the new set.
Don't have to worry about trying to sand off the plastic chrome without creating divits or craters on them that way.
As for the surround, I guess you can paint it, I got a whole new surround and grille from Fordpartsonline.com to replace it. The grille was somthing like 97.00 and a few bucks to ship it ( stupidly low cost ) . Take a look at the collision catalog there, to see what is available. I did a L grille as I liked it better then the honeycomb grille on the 4x4 and Lariats, and it does not say anything but Ford in the center, so you can't tell it is from a L, unless you know it. Need to check and see if a L was made in your color some year ( i.e. if it is Estate Green or Cranberry forget it ).
Picture of the day I got the stuff, while the mirrors were drying, I put the grille on ( notice still chrome glamor caps )

Good luck either way you decide.
Steve
