I have a 2002 2wd XLT w/ the 4.6. I'm looking for a set of gears. Is the rear an 8.8??

To the best of my knowledge the rear is a 8.8.

When you looking at gears don't get cheap or they won't last. I would go with the Ford gears from what others have told me and make sure to use a good installer. Gears must be set very carefully.

You will be looking at around $800 to get the gears and installation.

 

To answer your question directly... my rear is in a supercrew and, if you bought one, your rear has been in a supercrew... In fact, many members here have had their rear in a supercrew. LOL!

Seriously... I believe that it is an 8.8 as well.

I think most 4.6L has the 8.8 10 bolt stop sign shape and most 5.4L have the 9.75 12 bolt pear like shape. At least this is what I remember reading awhile back.

You should be able to look at the tag on the right side of the axle to be sure. It will either have the numbers 88 or 975 on it.
