It's amazing how much fluctuation that can occur between the same vehicles in some cases. A service manager told me once that depending on the day and phase of the moon, they come tuned differently from the Dealer. Originally, before any mods, I was getting in the 15.8-16.4 MPG range. Post mods, I have been 19.0 - 19.2 range for 6 fillups now. 95% highway miles with cruise control on.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but Geez, Nice signature photo! I've seen some others that do similar things, but how did you create that pic?

I agree with ReelWork -
Specifying the engine is important and so is:
What brand of gas you are using (ethenol mix?)

How fast you accelerate (slowly to at least 20 MPH?)

How fast you drive (55 vs 65 decreases mileage about 12%, 65 vs 75 decreases it another 15%. Some here claim to drive 90 MPH and get good mileage. Wind resistance increases at a VERY non-linear rate as speed increases.

and percentage of stop and go Vs hiway miles.

Other important factors are size of tires, gear ratios, etc.

When I talk to people about mileage too many of them talk about 1/4 of a tank this and 3/4 of a tank that. Like I can go from here to there and back on 3/4 of a tank and they are all happy about it, which is fine . . . God Bless them and may they live in bliss. But, they don't have a clue about mileage unless actual miles are divided by gallons on multiple tests. Many people don't really know what data is, what data isn't, and how to gather it.

Just some of my thoughts,

Tom Hall

THall,

Thanks for the compliment. A buddy of mine at work also has a Screw and did this up for me in Adobe Photoshop. It's actually 4 pictures...1 of the truck, 1 of the badge, the background, and the one put on the windshield. It took him about 30 minutes. If you want his e-mail, let me know. He's a whiz at that stuff.

Thanks for the compliment!

I buy the cheap stuff

87 octane 10% etanol, most of my driving is to from work, 14 miles each way, not even enough time for it to warm up well.

I'm going to fill up tomorrow and 'force' myself to be good and not romp on it, if I make it it'll be interesting to see if it helps.

If you need to know anything else, tailwind, just ate, whatever that may affect the mpg just ask!!

I just checked my mileage on a tank that was used mostly on a trip back from Atlanta to Birmingham but also used for two days running around here in town. My combined MPG was 13.82. That is almost 1 MPG better than last year at this time. Difference since then is a K & N and a Gibson Cat-Back.

Best mpg I have got was 16.82 (US MPG) or 13.986 Liters / 100 kilometers; The worst is 14.4 US MPG or 16.234 Liters / 100 Kilometers.

I have 5.4 liter with K&N filter - 4X4 - 3:55 gears - 265/70/17 tires

Fuel price in eastern Ontario $.654 per liter CDN or $1.83 US gallon.

Refueled to-day (Oct 6, 2003) 15.93 (US MPG) no surprise there!

Guess I'm gonna post in and set the bottom of the mpg curve. I have a 2x4 F150 SCrew, 5.4L, 3.55 rearend, with an airbox replacement (9" conical filter), a SuperChips MicroTuner program installed, and a Magnaflow 15609 catback installed. My driving consists of all city (i.e. stop and go) in 90 degree plus temperatures, and I consistently get 11.5 to 12 mpg out of every tank. Haven't done a long enough highway trip to get any feedback on what that mpg might be. I've tracked it religiously ever since my first oil change at 3000 miles, and have always gotten these numbers both before and after the aforementioned mods. After reading what mpg numbers others are getting, I'm really starting to wonder if there's something wrong with the truck that's hampering my fuel economy. The truck seems to run fine though. Anyboby have any thoughts or suggestions (other than the obvious suggestion of lightening up on my right foot, which I know I need to do)?

last two fillups were 18.5X mpg and the one previous to those was 17 MPG. The last two had a fairly good amount of highway, but also a fair amount of city. The one before that the majority was city. I'm pretty amazed at the low numbers people around here are getting.

It's a 5.4, 2X4 and it's completely stock.

The average mileage is in the high 16's, but high 17's are not uncommon. (Again, this is mostly city driving.)
