Hey BigDeal,
I had mods installed and removed them when fuel prices went up hoping to get better mileage. I drove my normal route, mountainous roads, and after 2 tanks of gas I averaged 12.5 mpg. I paniced and reinstalled my AirRaid and Superchip. After 2 tanks of premium my mileage improved to 15 mpg over the same basic route plus I have more power. That's a 20% increase in mileage for 10% higher fuel cost. So it's a win-win situation.

Oh well, I love my 'Screw, sucky gas gauge and all !!

Excellent post! My fuel guage behaves exactly as you said. I can get ~115 miles on the first quarter tank, but at a half a tank, I am lucky to see ~180 miles. I usually fill up at a little less than 1/8th a tank. I am happy if I see 300 miles on the tripmeter at fill-up. (I also reset my trip meter at every fill-up)

I have checked mileage on every tank since I bought my SCrew 6 months ago. I have the Microtuner and since installing the programming have been increasing my mileage with almost each fill-up, depending on driving conditions.

With the Microtuner and premium gas it costs me about 11.2 cents per mile. With factory tuning and regular gas it costs me about 11.6 cents per mile. So, with the slight increase in mileage with the Microtuner, it offsets the cost delta between regular and premium gas prices. Plus, I get the added benefit of the enhanced perfprmance on the occasion I want or need it, and the better tranny shifting all the time.

Your description in your last posts reflects my experience exactly. The first 30 miles or so don't even move the needle on my gas gauge. It is pegged at full until I have driven about 30 miles, then it starts the rapid decline. Because it is pegged for that first 30miles (or about 2 gallons +-) it alway gives us false hope about what phenamenal mileage we seem to be getting. Oh well, false hope is better than no hope at all right?

After that, at half tank I too am sitting right at 180 miles. I fill up when it hits empty and I get that warning light, at which point I consistantly put in 21.5 gallons (3.5 remaining). By that time I am right about at 310-315 miles or so depending on how much hiway driving I have gotten in. I recently got 19.2 on a level 60 MPH cruise control run for a whole tank. The next tank was 18.2 on the same level run, but I got stuck in traffic twice for a short time which reduced it a bit. 13.5 to 14.5 is what I get in town usually.

And yes I am as **** as the rest of you and reset my trip odometer everytime. I also have a GPS which tells me my average speed and I reset that to zero at each fill up too. It helps me to charactarize my use of gas i.e. was it mostly in town stop an go or more hiway miles.

i have a suspicion that were pulling out of winter which is the real help to your milage. All i know about those TB spacers is if you bolt em to your workbench they make decent beer holders, barely.

looked at link, didn't see tb spacers in there , like I said originally this was the first tank, BUT attributing it to "summer" gas is bs, I've NEVER gotten close to 16 with local driving, rain shine hot or cold. I'll be filling up again Sun, will let you know if my summer fuel holds up, lol

I have noticed a significant difference in MPG since the weather warmed up. Seems to me that the performance is stronger in warm weather as well.

Don't even start to complain about gas prices, were still in the $2.10-$2.25 range here in San Diego.

From all I have heard, the best gas mileage increaser is an electric fan. Simply put the fan on the front of the engine is sapping up to 20HP even at lower RPMs. Even with the clutch for the fan operation it is still using quite a bit of engine power.

I actually talked with a guy who has the electric fan kit in his truck and he has seen close to a MPG more in gas mileage and has noticibly better acceleration.

Thats my next mod or maybe the 4.10 gears..... HMMM? so many mods, so little money.

Well, not as good this time

14.73, did haul some building materials to a rental, but that was only roughly 20 miles, still better than 13 mpg

mpg update

Well, just arrived back home after a weekend trip with the wife. My mileage was 18.31.....18.31 mpg!!! Amoco 93 octane (as always) all intersate, cruise set at 75 mph without getting into the throttle. I read here that if you keep RPM's below 2000 the mileage is much better, so I resisted the urge to drive 90mph like usual on a trip.
At 75mph, my RPM's were at 1800. I was so impressed with the numbers when I arrived at our destination. Filled up before any city driving, filled up again just before getting on the interstate to drive back today. On the return trip, I drove anywhere from 75 to 90mph(mostly around 85mph) and the SCrew got 16.0mpg. On the return trip I drove faster and got into the throttle heavy a few times. still good for my sCrew, but as y'all can see....a difference of over 2 mpg

Just a little FYI.

I think the Microtuner tuning has alot to do with the better mileage.

We went to California a couple weeks ago and drove 75-80 mph the whole way over and back. Got 20.2 mpg going and 18.7 coming back with 500# of freight in the back for a trip average of 19.4 MPG over 734 total miles (37.8 gals).

Re: mpg update

Impressive! Looking forward to getting that MicroTuner. And I agree, AMOCO is THE BEST!

When I 1st got my screw we went to Denver from St Louis via Omaha Ne. Then straight back to St Louis, my trip got about 18.4 on the Interstate and that was bone stock. The only thing that was added was the cover as I drove through KC on the way there. This was with the cruise no hard driving (wife was following me ) set at around 72.

Will be taking some trips this summer to Texas and probably back to Louisville again (I like that town) will see what the Interstate mpg's are at that time

Guys, I see one thing...

I think folks need to specify what engine they have more. Some have like rebel and others but saying you got 19+ MPG when you have a 4.6 is not THAT big of a deal, it is good though. If I got that with my 5.4, I'd crap a golden egg! LOL

Well, on second thought, that might hurt...

My 5.4 averages right around 15.5-16-3 give or take but I have touched in the low 17's on long trips where the winds were right, weather and humidity wre optimum and te stars aligned perfectly with venus during the autumnal equinox.

I'm curious to see if the magnaflow I just ordered adds any mileage. Probably not since my foot will undoubtedly be heavier..

Later,
Chris (ReelWork)
