Question about gearing.. Help please..
I have a 2002 2wd Screw XLT 4.6, and I wanted to know what the stock gearing is?? From stock alone it lagged quite a bit.. Now I got a set of 22's, and it really lags power. I was looking to get a set of 4:10's but I don't want to be my RPM's to be screaming at 80 MPH cruising.. or for that matter 90-100 on my way to and from Vegas..
I think I will be ok considering my new tires are a hair under 32" tall. If anyone can give me some advise, I would greatly appreiciate it.
Thanks in advance..

In the door jamb there is a rectangular sticker. Look for "axle". Under "axle" if it reads H9 you have a 3.55 LS, if it reads B6 you have a 3.73 gear.
There is also the 3.08 OPEN gear possibility, and having a 2 wheel drive with the little V-8, you just might have that gear. I do not know the axle code for it, though. It is not one I cared enough about to commit to memory.
As for advise....get those 22's off and put normal size wheels back on.

I belive the SCREWs until 2003 only had the 3.55 gear option. The 4.6 on the 2003s now has the 3.73 options as well as the offorad package with the 17" wheels.
For you I would get the 3.73s or a little higher, 4.10s with the 22" tires is a bit much.
Also just a warning, gears are not cheap. It will cost you around $700-$800 for the gears and labor to change out the rear gearing. For a 4x4 it's almost twice as much!
Heres a calculator that will tell you your RPMs and other stuff if you know your gearing and tire sizes.
