Tinting front 2 windows?

What is the going rate to get the 2 front windows to match the rest of the factory tinted ones. Does anyone know what tint the factory tint is?

I'm having a buddy do mine, he used to tint professionally and now just does it on the side. He's charging $50, which is not too bad. I believe the tint he's going to be using is 15%...I'll find out for sure but I believe thats it. They sure look a lot better with the front 2 tinted as well.

The place I use , the going rate is about $45.00 to $55.00 / window. This is with normal tint ( non mirrored tint ).

The factory is like 20 or 25% if I recall. I got my 2 fronts done in 36%, since that is the darkest legally allowed in Colorado. They are noticably lighter than the rears, but it looks good and you can still see out at night. I think I paid $70.

Rear windows are darker than 20% - I had 20% put on and they are just slightly lighter than the factory. Factory is like 15%.

In Lexington 20% will match the rear windows and should cost $50.00 for both, thats what I paid.
20% is not " legal" on the front driver and pass. window but most places will do it anyway

Question. How would the police or other agency test to see what % tint you have? Do they have some type of scale or something?

I guess what I'm getting at is, if it's illegal, how do they know and how can they proove it?

There is an electronic device that actually measures the level of tint. We don't have one. It's not something that is strictly enforced in Ga. Officers will use it for probable cause to stop you. If you do get stopped, please have the common sense to roll your windows down if you have illegal tint.

firsttimeFord,
Where did you get the tinting done in Denver and are you happy with the quality?

Thanks in advance.

YES. I used to run 5% in my vehicles (limo tint basically). The cops never used to bother me with my trucks, but when I had a cars, they would always bust my chops.

I even used to do the old roll the window down trick, but they would ask me to roll em up.

I think it depends on the cop, some are ball busters some are not. Guess it depends on there mood and how much $$$ they need for there ticket quota!

Talking

The percentage on tint goes for how much light passes through Like 15% means only 15% of light is seen threw the tint. Man that sounds confusing-hope you understand. ---Paul

The back windows are done at 20%. I have the back ones done factory from Ford and had the front ones done at a local shop I paid $50 for it to get done, but generally they run about $60 down here.

Also if your just getting the front ones done get dyed film. If you get metal film they wont match the back ones.

I paid $40 to have my fronts done. I metered the rear windows (21% on all) and had the shop match it. Yes, its illegal. 35% is max for driver and passenger windows in FL.

The difference in color from factory and aftermarket is that the factory tint is actually a baked-on glaze so color is truer and more vibrant both day and night. The aftermarket tints affect color shading a lot more, thus appear darker when looking out. Despite this, they are an exact match from the outside - which was my goal.

FWIW, much darker than the 20% I have now would cause me problems at night. In fact, I have toyed with stripping mine and going to 30% because I drive at night so much. I simply don'tknow how people drive at night with 5% limo on their windows.

And, for anyone wondering why mirror tint and hologram tint is illegal, try shining a spotlight on a window that is so-equiped at night!

Anybody know if there are any aftermarket companies that can apply tinting the same way that the factory does? Seems like that would provide a much more durable, as well as perfectly matching, tint on our front windows.
