@ highway speed, my Screw wanders...
tsb - glue crossmember
Who am I to question the wisdome of Ford? I just wanted the wandering to stop!!
#15502 special service message..
pop/click/clunk noise from front end on turns 4x4 only..........
anyway it says this may be due to lateral movement between the 1A crossmember and the vehicles frame.........ok any flex to me is a cause for concern when fighting a wander condition!! ....so the fix reads ----------remove crossmember, clean offmating surfaces of both crossmember and frame, apply motorcraft ta-1 metal bonding adhsive to triangular mating surface, reinstall the crossmember..........bla.....etc.

After I put a set of high-quality tires (Bridgestone Dueler A/T/ Revo) on the truck, the wandering was cured. New shocks (Rancho RSX)helped as well.
This also remedied the poor crosswind handling issues.
Although I am VERY pleased with this combination and highly recommend it, I'm sure any quality tire / shock combination would yield similar results.
(Just don't get Michelins, they're a great tire, but the company is French--thus raising the potential nightmare of being in a difficult driving situation and having your tires surrender.)

Yeah, quality tires and shocks are probably a good bet to get rid of wandering, or most any "road contact" problem for that matter.
Not buying Michelin tires will hurt more Americans than any French. I understand and agree with the reasons behind that statement, but virtually all Michelin tires sold in the U.S. are built by facilities in the U.S. by American employees. A couple of Frenchmen are the only ones abroad that would suffer financially, while ALOT of ppl in America would suffer financially.
Any way, don't buy a lesser tire just because you think you are doing the right thing. Boycott French wine instead. Who needs that crap anyway!
