The simplest Mod - 22" wiper blades

I just went down to Schucks Auto parts and replaced both left and right stock 20 inch wiper blades with 22" wiper blades.

The 20" blades were new but when you sat in the passenger seat and looked out the window in the rain you looked right through the upper line where the wiper removed the water off the windshield.

I could see no reason for not changing it. I don't believe the wiper motor have any trouble with the larger blade at all.

The difference is substantial. Really nice to look through. Besides, as your windshield ages the area that is cleaned by the wiper stays pretty clear and the area that is not cleaned by the wiper gets etched by the dirt over time beyond your ability to clean it off.

Cheap, quick and substantially better view.

Tom

Edited - I now run 24 inch on the drivers side and 22 inch on the passenger side. I'll never go back.......

Sounds like a darn good idea to me. So they don't push over to the rubber gaskets around the window? Even on high speed where there is more 'play' and 'travel'?

I installed the 22"s on my truck last week. They are definitely an upgrade and they do not touch anything but the glass, at any speed, on my 'Screw.

I put 24" ones on my King Ranch. They work like a dream. They miss a little in the bottom corner passenger side due to the curve of the glass, but who cares.

Do they hit anywhere when they are on 'high' because of the momentum and such?

No hitting at any wiper speed, but I have noticed at fast highway speeds, they miss a little near the tops. Big, beautiful clear window though.

I guess I'm going to have to look into the 24" then... geesh, that seems big.

Mine are great with tiny mod

The mod is not required unless you are really **** like myself.

Mine work great at all speeds and have no negative impact from speed of vehichle or speed of the wiper.

The only thing I did to mine was very very slightly bent down the right passenger side end of the wiper. Like I said it is really not required and then bend was just enought to influence the blade to press against the winshield the last 1 inch on the extreme right side.

Thall,

Great idea! I wish I had thought of it before I went ahead and put on a new set of Anco winter blades a few months ago!

What was I thinking???

THall,

Great idea, I've been meaning to replace mine for the past month, this must be why I was waiting, just didn't know it. I'll be getting some when the parts store opens in the morning.

Kinda funny, the last three postings all registered the same month and year.

Yep, I just did the same thing with the Teflon 22" blades. They are much nicer now.
