Disabling auto door lock when shift to drive?
Disabling auto door lock when shift to drive?
Does anyone know how to disable the automatic door locking feature that locks all of the doors whenever you put the vehicle in drive? I don't want to disconnect the power lock feature, just want to lock all door when I press the button and not otherwise.
I had a remote starter installed over the weekend. When I got my SC back, all four doors UNLOCK when I turn the truck off!!! My Sport Trac did this also. Salesman told me at the time of sale that the SC wouldn't do this, but it does! COOL!!
Marc...
Mine does too... What kind of starter did you get? I have an Omega Executive (Same as Exaclibur & K9) and I love it! Since I only drive my truck pretty much on the weekends or when we go out, it's nice to crank her up and have her well on her way to being warmed up and ready to go by the time I go get in... I hate cranking a car up and then immediately going, I prefer to let the oil get moving a little and such...
BTW - How does your truck go about starting and what does it use to activate/deactivate it? Mine uses the factory remote and I hit the "lock" button twice, which locks the doors, then it checks to see that is indeed off at the ignition (not running) and then cranks her up all with the alarm still armed... Then when you go to get in with it running, press the unlock button to disarm the alarm and get in as ususal, put the key in the ignition and turn it to the "ON" possition. The radio and HVAC and everything are running normally but if you touch anything like the brakes the engine will shut off if the key has not been inserted and turned to the "ON" position...
If you fail to disarm with the keypad and unlock using the key, the alarm will immediately sound, the engine will shut down, all the doors will relock and it will go into an armed/panic mode... Until all the systems (Doors, lights etc..) are back in a secure non-violiated mode. Works great and I have never had a problem...
To shut 'er off, press the "lock" button 2 times again (quickly) and it will shut right down...

Make sure ignition is off and doors are closed. Turn ingition key to ON. Press power door unlock control three times. Turn ignition key from ON to OFF. Press power door unlock control three times. turn ignition key back to ON The horn will chirp. Press the unlock control, then press the lock control. Horn will chirp once if autolock was activated, twice (one short, one long) if autolock was activated. Turn ignition key to OFF. Horn will chirp once to confirm procedure complete.
All above steps must be completed within 30 seconds, or the procedure will fail. If the procedure fails, you must wait 30 seconds before attempting again.

Thank you soooo much Wickman! You are the man!
Everyone kept saying in this post and others "It's in your owners manual." but I was unable to find it! Then you came along and took the time to explain it and now I am no longer running laps around my truck just to get things out of the passenger seats because I would get there and find the door was still locked. I also have a habit of jumping out and leaving the truck running to get something out of the shop, barn, etc and would often think after I did it. What if it rolls setteling in to park and the doors lock? I would be locked out while it burns up a tank of gas. No longer a worry any more! Thank you again!
