Questions from a Newbee!
Hey guys,
First I would like to introduct myself. I just bought a '03 S'Crew Lariat 2wd LOADED, 5.4, sunroof, 6 disc in dash cd changer, etc...
I traded in my 99 Eddie Bauer Explorer and I LOVE this new truck, even though I only have 325 miles on it now...
My questionions are
1) What air intake is the best for these trucks?
I have read a lot about the AirForce, Volant, and the K&N system. Which one do you guys feel is best and why? The AirForce system claims the biggest HP and Torque gains but is ~ $50 less than the K&N.
2) Which cat back exaust system is the best? and which one's do you guys have and do you like them?
I have been looking at either the Gibson or Flowmaster.
3) Does anyone have a lowering kit on their truck? I am looking at the Bell Tech 3/4 kit with the Nitro Drop shocks. Any opinions on this system or recommendations on others?
Thanks in advance for the help and it feels great to be part of the club?

As for the air intake, I went with the K&N FIPK. I trust there brand and so far have not had any problems. There are many opinions on the diffrent air intake kits, but there all very close, I would look at the quality of the parts as some may last longer than others.
As for the exaust, it depends on what you want it to sound like.
I have a Bullet exaust and tip, its a 3" cat-back with a 3.5" tip, I love the way it sounds, really nice tone to it and it wasn't that expensive. Bullet is made locally to me here in San Diego so the price was reallly nice.
Flowmaster has a rasper sound to it especially the 40 as it is really short and LOUD! If you want that sound then your search is over.
One suggestion is to spend the extra dough and make sure that you get stainless steel, don't bother with chrome anything as it will chip and start to rust especially if you offroad or drive around with loose gravel etc. Stainless dosen't shine as much but will last a lot longer.
Next duals or not, duals cost a lot more and really don't add much more of a benifit other than a really cool look of having pipes on both sides, you can get duals from the cats or after the muffler.
Again how much do you want to spend? Go down to your local muffler shop and talk with them on what they normally put on the F150s.
Congrads on your new truck!
