any turbo's??

hey guys,
well im building a second 4.2 for the truck, and because i didnt have the resources necessary to put the v-8 in my truck, im going to beef up the six. ive read a lot fo posts from you guys that talk about the powerdynes, and vortechs. what i was wondering is if anybody has fooled around with a turbo setup. i was thinking of designing either a single setup or a twin geared for low end. it may be a little more expensive, for the turbo manifolds, turbos, intercoolers, etc etc, but i think that if i used two small garrett t25 i could easily see the power of a lightning come out of a v-6.
wadda yall think? feasible?

sweeeet thanks for your help. ive seen lingenfelters work with the twinturbo vettes. he puts the magnachargers on, and also the turbos. even a small stage 1 setup yields about 500-50 at the wheels! a supercharger usually stomps down 400-440. i just think that a turbo would definitely make more power in the v-6 situation rather that a supercharger. lag times of both could be prettty well equalized with compressor trims. and our 4.2's carry enough cubic inches to be able to make the turbines spool up, allows more flexibility in housing choice.

i think around 325-350 at the rears would be an appropriate amount, that shouldnt be to hard with the right fuel set up.

Hey guys i have a few questions about this topic. I have a 97 4.6 35k miles and i alos was looking into putting a turbo on my truck. But i have been looking at some web pages and even some mustang pages and few guys talk about these junck yard turbo build ups for around 500 - 1000 bucks. Do you think this would be a good rute to go? I wouldn't mind having the extra cash for other mods! and don't turbos create alot more tq than blowers?

Also i'm only 17 and money is the biggest set back

thanks for your help guys!

iron horse,

the main place that i have been looking at is turbomustangs.com because i'm a big mustang fan. But while there i was reading how alot of these guys will go to junkyards and find turbos and other misc parts from a wide rang in price and have a shop bend the pipes for their application. I just got done lookin at the site and one guy has a TT set up he did him self for 450 bucks! and hes just one of many.

But i was wondering if this would be a go route for me? I have a 97 f150 reg cab 4.6 wiht on 35k miles.(All stock except for lightning rims) I'm realy lost when it comes to turbos because i never realy cared for them. So if you guys have any goods sites that would explain the operation of turbos and what not i would realy appriciate it.

Also if anyone here has done a set up simular to this drop me a line!

Thanks in advance to all who reply

that looks like a very nice kit. do you have any idea of what options are available on turbo size? i just got my truck so i am new to this, but how much boost are you supercharger guys running on stock bottom ends? would the boost levels need to be really low if you turboed a 5.4?

I don't know if it is just a mistake in the web site but the photo on that link is for a Mustang. Look at the configuration of the inlet and the lines. The same photo is in this month's MM&FF as a Mustang kit.

I would love it if someone had a turbo for the F150/Expy. A turbo would be perfect for my needs.

Ian N,
Theres a disclaimer under the photo that it is a representation and the actual may vary. They probably already had a photo of the Mustang unit and used it. I noticed the same thing you did with the intake to the passengers side of the engine.
I too am going to watch this. I hope Crash gets one and can give us some feed back.

I have talk to the person, Brad I think, I am taking him my truck in Apr. to have a twin turbo set up done on it. He has sent me a picture of a 5.4 he did a single on and it look good. As soon as I get my truck back in June I plan to put a full set of pictures up and take it to the track. I will be having the bottom end completely rebuiult a new tranny and other goodies put on it.
