97 4.6L f150 looking to get a turbo

What are some good turbos to put on a 97 4.6L f150 or is it even possible?

before it goes any further

what is your budget ?

can you fabricate and weld ?

if it blows the motor or transmision is that going to be an issue?

is this your daily driver and can you afford for it to be down for a while.

how many miles on the truck?


$1000 budget, have a freind that can weld, it is my dailey driver and 200,000 miles.......enjoy the truck gets some cool tires and rims and save money for next truck.

i disagree , but let the op answer questions before we go thru all the same stuff again.

i saw that parts critical to the conversion are not available from Ford anymore.

sorry about about, there was someone making a big deal about how certain parts where no longer available.

All these complicated answers

Lightning motor and trans and ECM and everything out of a lightning for under $5000 drop the sucker in and you get 360 440 hp and tq then you simply do budget mods and easily get up to 500-600 engine hp tq

If your going boost this is the easiest simplest logical way to go. You get a good trans and a good motor.

Some things are required along the way like driveshaft and what not

There is no other route I would go

Injectors

Fuel pumps

Intercooler

Custom manifolds

Time and effort

Built block

Built transmission

Tuner

Custom

Tuning

Plumbing

Fitment issues

Custom brackets

I know doing just a turbo at a shop with proper parts no labor was $4500 just in parts on a lightning that has most of this stuff.

I commend you on the effort

After all that tho...

Even a small turbo set up is going to run $3000-4000

don't know if you can still get these - not cheep but might save a ton of fab work

Think facts and logic here

He asked about a turbo. 95% of the guys in the ford world go blower not turbo.

Going turbo costs money. It takes time. Spare time which most grown adults don't have time for. So now it takes money to get someone to do it. Most people who do turbo swaps have one of three things. Shops money or spare time. He has a 4.6 l 97 ford. From my reading into this. The easiest most economical way for this guy to go if he wants boost is lightning swap. You can have a lightning swap done in 3 days if you get your stuff in line.

Logic it helps sell stuff.

I recently saw 4 turbo projects go south with guys who got burnt out. Why because of time it takes and money.

Score a lightning drivetrain and done easy.
