Oh that's a mess ^^ haven't seen that much devastation for a while.

Yeah I will be running low - mid 9:?? STATC compression on my built motor. All depends on head CC of course. The rings are gapped for around 20psi +. The engine is said to be Loose, this is in contrast to the stock block thats regarded as tight.
My build was relatively cheap but I supplied the rods and ARP Studs. No shipping either.

Some budget or low priced Built bottom ends don't normally include all the goodies like ARP hardware. Some Claimed Manley bottom ends don't include the ARP2000 Bigend bolts that renders it a good 700hp max set up. Thats an $199 option, mains & sides are another $250+, IMO 100% essential on something costing $$$$. MMR is the best example, good prices until you start ticking the boxes.

whats the difference between a short vs long block and 2V vs 3V vs 4V?

can't get a clear understanding of this, are our truck short or long block stock?

if you want a built engine do you put a short or long block

Short: Bottom end

Long: Bottom & heads.

2v - 3v - 4v : number of valves per pot as you already know.

2v : 1 in, 1 out.

3v : 2 in, 1 out.

4v : 2 in, 2 out.

wow..that was a mess! I never even tore mine down with 115K miles I figured WTF? Who cares. It blew driving 45 mph down a hill. I didn't want todo the whole forged bottom end short block build because I don't race it and I am making a "safe" 9-10 PSI Boost. Plus its hard to spend 6-10K on a 2004 engine when you only have to spend $2850. I have a newer truck too. I need to sell one of them. LOL If I had one truck I probably would have gone all out.

Yeah, widj, for whatever reason, the long vs. short term has nothing to do with size, just what's included in it. So technically we all have long blocks + valve covers + all the other accessories haha.

But dayuuuuuuuum that thang was F'd up from the start . . .

Well I think I have settled on the build… Comments welcome!

Ford Racing 5.4 Block
Cobrajet Crank
Forged Manley Rods/Pistons
Ford Racing CNC Ported Head
Comp Cams Stage 1 Blower Cams (no springs or retainers needed)
Ford Racing Head Kit (upgraded metal gasket and strengthened bolts)

Bottom end will be done with ARP but based on the boost I am running I just don't think ARP on top is needed… the cost is difference is big…

Look forward to your comments/input. I think this will be a nice Stage 1 build.

^^^ That's gonna cost for sure.

The school of thought is directed towards a high mile block as this casting will be proved. I.E Warm - Cool - Warm - Cool -Warm - Cool etc over a long period resulting in a proven block.

The mains will need a hone to accommodate the ARP studs. Then we need to look at an Oill pump. MMR is what I have.

Including FF heads, comp cams etc this build is gonna run $$$$ for sure. Like I said, cheap until you add essential parts.

So what CC pistons? H bean or I beam rods? Don't forget APR2000 rod bolts.

H-beam Manley's. All machine work is included in the bids… And yes it is going to run some bucks… but we are going to do it right. This is my Baja truck so I need 100% performance. I am going to keep it a LONG LONG TIME…

I had the stage 1 comp blower cams before my motor blew. I didn't use them on the new motor and I can't "feel" any difference. I really don't think they did all that much. Sound nice, should add, but not sure they did. for $750 or so I would pass. Just my $.02. Good Luck on th build.

Alright boys and girls. I selected Manny's Hardcore Performance to build my motor... Here are the stats and the price. Everything is new...

Ford Racing 5.4 Block
Cobrajet Crank
Manley Forged H-Beam Rods with ARP2000 Bolts
Manley Forged Dished Pistons with ARP Main Bolts
Manley Piston Rings
Ford Racing CNC Ported Heads (M-6049-N3VPA)
Ford Racing Head Gasket and Hardened Head Bolts
Comp Cams Stage 1 Supercharger Cams
OEM Phasers
OEM Lash Adjusters & Rockers
OEM Timing Chain Kit

Price for the engine BUILT is right around $6,500 from Manny's. I purchased everything except the Shortblock myself (all that is included in the price above). Got all the Ford Racing stuff for a great price from a vendor I know.
Engine is being built and should go back into the truck early the week of the 3rd.
