Blower on 87oct??

Is it possible to have a blower on a 05 5.4 f150 and be able to run 87oct if needed? Like if you normally run 12-14lbs on a TS blower with 93...could you put a huge pulley on to drop the boost as low as you can and change the belt and the tune and run 87? Or if you run a vortec or the likes that is over pullied and has a BOV to drop the boost to the 14 range...then if you need 87oct just adjust how much boost you need to bled off and drop it as low as you can and load new tune for 87?

I ask becasue I plan to put a blower on the truck one day...but being originally from New Orleans after katrina you didnt really have gas options. Not like that happens all the time but I would hate to be stuck like that.

I posted another thread in the V8 section about the motor...its been in need of a rebuild and im looking at the option of using a 5.4 out of a f250 as the doner motor and forged internials. I wouldnt put a blower on this stock motor at that high of psi...actualy a blower wont go on anyway until I got it rebuilt...it has its own issues already lol.

I wasnt sure if you could get the boost low enough on either application to allow for 87oct.

Basically boost of any number and 87 oct is just a bad idea. Far to risky.

Kinda figured that but wanted to ask. I guess there is no way to de boots it completely...like with the vortec style and bov.

What about if I had to do 87 adding oct booster? I dont like the idea of the booster...but would it work in a needed situation? Just trying to see what if any options are other than...dont put a blower. Not that I have had it happen a lot where I couldn't get 93...but it has happened.

We used to use torco when we couldn't find race fuel 10 years ago. Not cheap by any means but we were able to run 650-700 at the wheels on 91 + torco.

How long does torco keep? That is an option I guess...running some of that in with 87 or 91...I could still detune the truck or lower the boost to make it safer.

X2, if you can keep your foot out of it 87 octane (on a bad gas tune) MIGHT get you a few miles...

You would have to run low boost(4 or 5#s) and back most all the timing out of the tune and you might get away with it. But it's still not a good idea.

i ran 87 octane on my tune with 11-12 timing on it no knock. it was rich as hell though. but i managed better power more timing and better fuel economy by sticking with 93 octane..

So it sounds like if I HAD to run 87 maybe de tuning it and probably run some torco. How long does that stuff keep and what is the ratio of torco to change the oct rating. Like us a little needed or I'd have to put several gal of it for a full tank.

NOLAGT, why do you want to run 87?

With lower boost 6-7lbs and methanol injection and intercooler you might get by. Cost wise it is cheaper to pay for the 92-93 octane

I had posted above that I live in south louisiana and actualy lived in new orleans through Katrina...it was quite some time before I could pick what gas I wanted...it was take what you can get. I didn't have my blown mustang or this truck back then so it wasn't a issue. I want to supercharge the truck too but I'm just trying figure out what can be done IF that ever happened to me again. I moved to Lafayette la and even when a storm threatens sometimes gas stations run out of certain gas. Usualy starts with the cheaper stuff...but I just want to have an idea of what I can do so I'm not stuck. Has nothing to do with gas prices. 93 would be run unless I couldnt get it...

Have you considered locating a shorter belt? Then you could eliminate the blower just by switching belts and not spin the blower at all until you can get the gas you need.

Ahh...I had thought about that but forgot to ask about it thanks! I wasnt sure if I could just simply take the blower out of the belt loop and have the truck run like it was NA. So that is possible??? If so that will be the route I would take. The motor at first will be NA anyway...then when I get the blower I will just keep the NA tune (will have a 93perf and a 87 perf) then I could just swap belts and re load NA tune.

Just for giggles sakes since we are talking about hurricane times. This is a pic I found on the net a day or two after Katrina. My car was wrecked before and was at the body shop...I was supposed to pick it up on monday and katrina rolled through that weekend. They parked all the cars on there roof top parking lot...they got about 8-10' of water...notice some cars still underwater.
