I just completed the extra idler mod in the quest for more belt wrap, and less belt slip. Been wanting to get this done for a while and finally got around to it. Huge thanks to Faster150 for the idea, parts list, and information

I used a Motocraft YS-298 Ford Focus pulley, a 2 inch stainless 5/8" bolt, some washers, and a nylock nut. I used a 76 7/8" Gates belt, 1.5" longer than my previous belt, to accomodate the extra idler.

yeah Crash brought that up to procharger and supposedly is going to be taken into consideration.. but im sure from procharger it would be a 500 dollar improvement but for us with a socket set and a drill we can ad this for 50 dollars including the belt!.

lol, this is only the second time the bracket's been off before, and i'm always careful so not much wear and tear on it. Getting darn good at pulling the blower and bracket, it's easy as pie now. I'm also blessed with a polished HU, a $200 upgrade at the time when I bought the kit from Crash! Definitely worth it for the bling factor!

Definitely agree. I used to see people's Vortech and Paxton setups, and they always had that extra idler there to provide more belt wrap. It only makes good sense to have it there. I was always envious of them until now haha.

The belt is SO much easier to install now as well; it just slips right on with the blower already fully bolted home. I used to have to use a short belt to fight off belt slip. Only way to get it on was to take out all the bolts holding the blower to the bracket, thread the belt around the blower pulley, and then with a helper and all your might, pull the head unit up stretching the belt while the helper scrambles to get a bolt started. Such a PITA

I have a little over an inch of tensioner travel to go with the new setup. I still have to allow for the initial stretch and retighten. Worst case scenario if I run out of tensioner travel, i'll pull the bracket again and drill another hole more inward. The new idler is large enough to hide the first hole that you wouldn't even see it. Let's hope it works out as is though.

And I agree with Crash! that they have some of the best customer service in the industry.

tarajerame - I have seen that done with the Procharger tensioner. A guy used a larger Dayco idler for the tensioner, as well as the idlers on the bracket. Other than removing some excess material from the tensioner it looks pretty straight forward. I thought I saved a picture, but darned if I can find it.

 

I bought a larger pulley that will clear but the shaft won't work. A 2.50 pulley will fit right in place of the 2.3 ATI pulley.



Let me find a shop that carries dayco pulleys and I'll figure something out
