Killed another 4R70W behind my 5.4 Lightning conversion - Suggestions
It appears that I just lost another 4R70W trans, this time a Monster Box unit. What are you guys running that can take the abuse (and I drive it like I OWN IT - ie many highway miles, no 1/4 mile, etc...) of a 5.4L with the L swap?
I've heard of others swapping in the 4R75. The truck is a 2001 supercrew 4x4, is this even an option for that year?

talk to this guy http://www.bcatransmissions.com/album1_011.htm
many people here are using 4r70/4r75s built by him and he also has tons of rep from mustang people also. talk to him tell him what you want (make sure you give him all the info about your truck the first time) and he'll make it for you.

also weighs 150lbs more and requires a custom drive shaft no to mention 1st and 2nd gear suck!
What about a 4r100 swap? My stock one took 14lbs of boost for a short while like 10K miles before letting go and MY FAVORITE GEAR WAS 3ED TO SECOND I had mine built race ready for only 2700 out the door with tax and all. I know for a fact that the punisher on here and Lrodder.com does killer work I had his VB installed on this fresh rebuild and it can be neck snapping even in a 6K lbs suv with a 3k stall cant wait for the cash for an YSi or J trim

They did my fathers lightning motor swap and built his 4R70W. He has 35" tires and 4.56 gearing, the truck is used for towing and as an offroad toy, the trans was built stout.

I installed blower at 90,000 miles and now have 155,000 miles with 4r70w. Only thing I did was add shift kit. Boost has always been over 10lbs, currently pullied to 16lbs. Daily driver with occasional towing. Must be lucky, knock on wood!!!!!
Problem with the 4R100 is the fact that my truck is a 4x4. To swap in the 4R100 is a MAJOR PITA! Lots of custom work plus need an aftermarket controller. And in emission controlled areas (like St Louis) any change to the original PCM will cause your vehicle to fail (VIN's don't agree = failed emissions). Why? Cause the government dweebs can't understand that sort of change....

And I still have the orginal battery as well. Must have been a good year!
