my 6 to 8 rib conversion

Hi Guys,
here are a few pictures of the pulleys I have purchased to start my 6 to 8 rib conversion. I have had some terrible belt slippage since day one with my magnuson setup, and adding a smaller upper last year made it even worse. I then added the overdriven crank and electric water pump recently and though it helped some I still have the slippage. I haven't started yet but maybe this weekend, overall the cost on parts alone was about 350.00 most were purchased thru rock auto except for the belt and magnuson pulley (the aluminum one). I will keep this post updated with my progress, I will probably do a few of the pulleys at a time so I can monitor for anything not lined up correctly. I think tomorrow I will probably do the easy ones like the idlers and tensioner....

Just finished with some of the pulleys, I got the driver side, the alt., the idler for the magnuson, and the tensioner on. I need to run and get some shims for the pass. side idler, and that ribbed idler down by the power steering pump. I should have it completed tomorrow if I can find a store with the correct pulley pullers for the power steering pump and the jackshaft pulley on the magnuson.

Well we are almost there, I just have to find a pulley puller to pull the jackshaft pulley, the place I went to last time no longer carries it. I did have to shim up the ribbed idler by the power steering pump more than I thought, it was causing some severe rub and shaving the belt, but at least the belt I used was an old one. I might have it done by tomorrow, but we shall see.

You might want to exchange that gator back belt for a gates belt. I had much better luck with 6 & 8 rib setups with the gates style belts. They are not cut like the gator backs and seem to have less belt dust and better traction around blower pulleys.

I will keep an eye on the gatorback, I have a gates on there now which came with the kit and have slippage. I did note that the passenger side idler I pulled off was not as free spinning like the others, you can feel a lot more resistance on it compared to the others. This particular one is rather close to my jackshaft pulley on the magnuson, I wonder if that may have contributed to some of my slippage issues?

Failure...The innovators west 8 rib pulley will not fit. There is too much material on the pulley to fit properly. Looks like I will have to find someone that can machine some of the material off, so slight delay in my plans...I also have to get a new pulley as this soft aluminum one is gouged pretty bad from the puller jaws.

Just an update... I had to order me a custom upper pulley for the magnuson...Hopefully this one will work, will be 4-6 weeks and once I get it I will update on how it goes.

I got my new maggie pulley in today, so I will try to get it installed and running on the 8 rib belt setup tomorrow. I have been running without boost for about a month or so and I do miss it.

I bet you do miss it!!!
Good luck with it, and I hope it's a big improvement over the 6 rib. I think it will be.

well it's all on and running, I did in fact have to shim up the jackshaft pulley a bit as this was the source of the belt creeping up onto the new alternator. Here are a few pics of the completed setup.

Looks good, if you dont mind me asking how much was the upper pulley? Looks like a Reichard racing pulley?

I ordered it from south florida pulley headquarters, but the pulley came from ASP. The basic pulley was 140.00 plus another 20.00 to have the non-slip grooves machined in. I think it took about 6 weeks to get it in. The best thing about this setup is that the belts are readily available...
