Supercharger question

Hey guys i have a question about supercharging my 2004 f-150. I was thinking of goin with a roots type blower but my only concern was that i just passed 100,000 kms on the truck. Do u guys think that the engine will hold up fine with forced induction. I dont plan on cranking up the boost just keep it at 6 or 8 pounds what ever the kit is set at. Also what kind of systems do u guys like. I was thinking of the whipple. Thanks and all opinions are welcome.

Your engine would be a lesser concern to me because a good tune will manage it but hows the tranny and which one are you running?

I was going to run 8 psi from the ford racing whipple. I bought the truck at 60000 kms and changed the fluid and filter and then again after i moved to alberta. Nothing seems to be wrong. No slipping and seems to be shifting the same it always has.

I think you'd be okay as long as you have a good tune. If you have a weak point or problem with your drivetrain, the supercharger will find it and let you know .

As for "kinds of systems", I went with the Roush supercharger. I planned on upgrading my system from the beginning and I found the Roush to be one of the cheapest upgradable superchargers out there. It already comes with spark plugs, injectors, and a large intake tube and MAF housing. You could gain lots of additional power with just a pulley and tune. However, your goal seems to be running stock boost. The Whipple is a good system and I don't think you'd go wrong with it.

Whipple makes the most power stock (In my opinion). However, if you want to upgrade the Roush has like it was stated, the 42 injectors. The kit itself it quite a bit more though. Roush is very easy to upgrade though!

I vote whipple for u!

I purchased my Whipple directly from the company. Removing the middle man gives you direct Q&A access to the Whipple engineers when problems/situations arise. The price differences, in most cases, are not worth the increased hassle if you encounter problems. It worked for me, and every call was answered courteously and accurately.

The Whipple kit comes with everything you need to run the stock 8psi. If you ever wish to increase the boost, you'll need to address fuel pump and injector issues by upgrading/replacing those.

If you can find a Ford dealer to install the kit, you'll be lucky. The dealers I tried wouldn't handle the work, so I found a performance shop that did an excellent job (probably much better than Ford, since they do this more often). Unless you're truly a proficient car mechanic, with a good array of tools, I wouldn't attempt the installation yourself.

You'll love the power.

Good luck,

Lee

Meh install is very easy. Just need tools and a weekend to do it. I did it at the shop I work at, which I had no problems at all, but I do have a large tool base to draw from.
