Turbocharge or Supercharge?

K so as of right now i have a late modle f150 lightly modified. I am getting a newer modle (05-06) 150 for graduation and have been saving money to instanly upgrade the truck i get..... i mean who wants a new truck slower than their old beater right? So i figure i will go all the way and either supercharge or turbocharge but i am torn between the two. Any opinions and reasons why to choose one or the other? and i am having trouble finding turbo systems for the f150. as far as superchargers i have been looking into the performance package offered by troyer with a roush supercharger tuning yada yada. Any feedback is a huge help thanks guys

Supercharger for sure. A turbo will need some RPMs to spool up...the supercharger will give you NICE boost right from the git-go.

cost wise it would be a huge investment turbo charging an f150. definetly go with the supercharger. itll have less power, but also require much less fab work and money

Anyone how much an STS turbo system costs and/or have any testimonials? Their website shows some impressive results.

cost aside.

Go with the turbo. Having had and currently driving supercharged trucks, I find that the superchargers boost is based on starting air pressure and the results vary. On hot days my et have been 1.25 seconds slower than with colder air. Where as the turbo does not and the boost limits are reached ( max. boost controlled by the bypass valve). Follow the lightning threads lots of the guys are changing to turbo.

I really like the sound of a turbo compared with an SC, but the SC kits that are readily available for our trucks are just to convenient.

Additionally, STS=348 RWHP WhippleSC=394 RWHP

If you calculate the crankshaft specs like the factory does you would end up with an SC'd F150 with 525 HP and 578 ft./lbs. of torque.

super charger

i jus was asking stelth about a supercharger, someone is going to give me one off of an 08 cobra, but i think my 04 5.4 triton is a 3 valve and for that charger to work i have to have 4 valve, or will it work anyway?

you can use the supercharger its self but all the stufff with it(manifold, intake...) you wont be able to use you will need the stuff from a f150 kit, or custom make it

Depends on what you want...

SC set-ups are more 'cost effective'. If you're not looking to pour a ton of cash into this, and just looking for additional HP I mean.
Turbo's are nice, but not something you can just throw on with a canned tune.

There's been many many discussions here and all over on the SC vs Turbo set-ups. You need to sit down, figure what you want to spend (time and $) and then decide which is best for you.

An IC would be a good idea with the SC set-up also.

If you go SC, look into Roush... additional 3/36 pwrtrain warranty!

I guess I am a little gullible and want to believe my big 5500 lb. F150 could actually get down the road with some speed. The average claim by SC providers is around 160 HP and 160 Ft Lb.

They always have a disclaimer too on the condition of the vechicle and other factors.

And yes, I have read the some of the post and information.

I think this is from one of the members.

I hope he dosen't mind me re-posting it. I like to listen to it once in a while to keep the dream of actually getting one alive.

My Whipple at the standard 8# boost made 391 RWHP with a good dyno tune. It made 365 RWHP with the Ford Racing tune included with the kit.

I believe the #'s are all over the place, depending on several factors.
