FRP Whipple and tune ???'s

Hi guys,

I have a 2007 F-150 Harley AWD and my new Ford Racing Whipple is installed.
In the kit it gives instructions to call for a tune chip of some kind.

The shop that did the install said if it works great then ok but if it dont he would need some serious hours to tune as he doe not have a AWD dyno....And around Michigan I dont know of anyone who does.

My questions are.
Anyone have AWD Whipple experiences?
Anyone have the Whipple tuner box thing?
Any and all help is very much appreciated.

It should have come with a tuner and if not you usually need to call them to give them your PCM code and such so they can send you the tune. Im not exactly sure how whipple does it. As for the dyno-I dont see why you wouldnt be able to remove the front driveshaft for dyno use and then put it back in when its done.

If you got the "whole" Whipple kit, you should have received a voucher for a Ford Racing programming tool. You go online, enter the supplied code, and a tuner/programmer specifically for your kit is shipped to you very quickly.

I also agree that you could remove the front driveshaft to get the tune done more easily. Your ultimate #s will be off by a bit (extra drag of the front wheel drive componentry), but the tune will still be accurate for your engine.

Good luck,

Lee

Thanks guys I heard that 4X$ can remove the drive shaft but AWD have sensors that detect wheel rpm.

I have been waiting for the FRP tuner since Friday so I hope it shows up soon.

Of couse it would be great to have a SCT tune and tweaked on the dyno but I will take what I can get at this point.

The FRP tune will get the vehicle going safely. The dyno tune will give you another ~10-15%.

Thanks it runs great but it feels like it has more to give.

Mine has the suggested standard FRP tune that i used after calls and e-mails to whipple.
Big mistake...need to find a AWD dyno and good tuner to fix this thing.

Ok I lied the Whipple flat out sucks......The normal driving shiffing pattern seams like who ever wrote the program was sloppy (hunts and jerks).

Truck hits 99MPH and throttle stops.....

Saw some guys driving Trilogy's new twin screw 08 F150 and it was smoking fast. Can't beleive I am stuck with the weak *** sucking blowing thing on my new truck.

It does have more power than stock but just not at all what I thought it was going to do.

should have brought a roush lololol. just kidding i know im going to get flamed for that one. without a proper tune and also having the speed limiter removed then everycar on the road will pass you eventually. at stock boost none of the blowers are that impressive. not like getting out of a chevette into a corvette. its still a 6000lb truck. now i know that everyone with a whipple has an upgrade kit with injectors, maf and pullies to change the boost. a good tune and they all break the 400hp mark easily according to the numbers they post. i have 392 out of my roush at 8lbs and can run with a mustang from 0 to 120 and if hes not careful beat him there. just need to find someone that has what you have to help you out. there are a lot of whipple guys up here if you search through the threads you can find all that you need.

The stock FRP tune does not eliminate the 99 mph speed limiter. The stock driveshaft is not really safe at higher speeds....your choice.

Both the shift points and the timing, etc. are not optimal with the FRP tune. They are good enough to get you going without blowing the engine.

I'm extremely happy with my Whipple set-up, and I do have the upgrades (injectors, pulley, MAF, fuel pump). I'm very conservatively tuned at 397 RWHP with a slightly rich A/F ratio on purpose (in case of bad gas fill-up).

Virtually all the twin-screws can be made to scream, you just have to "complete" the installation.

Give yours a chance to show what it's got before trashing it.

Good point Lee, I have a great tuner 2 miles from me Lidio of Alternative Performance but he does not have a AWD truck dyno.

He wants me to bring it back next month and he will drive and tune it some more. I am thinking of what i can do to help it along other than tune alone?

Also my guy Lidio is finishing up some tuning on a new prototype twin screw on a 07 F150 for a company called Trilogy. So his experience with the 07 should help me a bit.

Why not remove the front driveshaft and do a regular dyno tune?

WELL WHAT A DIFFERNECE!!!!!!

LIDIO at Alternative auto devoloped a tune that flat out rocks!

The Whipple tune shiffed at 4850 rpm
Speed limited to 98MPH
Normal driving 1-2 shift snapped like it was going to break something.
The truck was a DOG I dont think I could have beat my daughter 02 stock V6 Ranger.

Now it shifts perfect WOT or normal all the gears pull perfect 5350 rpm shift points smooth and so fast you would think he added a 50hp shot or something.

Lidio did junk the Whipple supplied tuner and used a SCT to install his tune. He had it for a few days to give it good drivability as well

If you buy a Whipple DO NOT USE THE TUNER IT COMES WITH DO call your favorite tuner or Lidio at Alternative Auto....he is not a advertiser but the forum probale should invite him on board because MI. needs someone like him to help all of us F150 guys.
