Supercharger for towing
Supercharger for towing
Hi I have a 98 F150 and tow a trailer right at the towing capacity.. I find the truck handles it well but is a dog on the hills. I am looking at an Allen kit but though I would ask if there are any others that are just as good.
Also one thing I was wondering about is what kind of capacity does the intercooler have in situations where you are towing up a long grade on a hot day.
Also if anyone has bought the allen kit some feed back on the install would be great.. is it as easy as the instructions make it look or is there a lot of "unexpected" problems

The Allen kit is a nice blower. You should also look at the Eaton a.k.a. Lightning swap. Both are positive displacement blowers and put out alot of low end torque. But I think you need to be a little cautious about all that low end torque when pulling such a heavy load, could be real hard on the tranny, drive shaft, and U-joints. I and a few others went with the centrifugal type Procharger. Not so low end power but really good mid-high range grunt. Thats where I wanted it when pulling my 9000# boat. It really helped alot.

Thanks for the info but I decided to go with a turbo charger instead.. It just happens to be covered by a 1999 F250 7.3L
It was all quick, after doing some price checking on a alen supercharger kit and a gear change I would be spending about 7 to 8K Cdn.. after trading in my truck on the new on it cost me 7K so worked out better in the long run as now I am only towing 55% of my towing capacity instead of 98%.
