Jerry,
Have you gone to the Rocket 100 octane and started mixing fuel yet? If not what are you doing about detonation with 90? Did you try torco when you were trying to raise your octane level?

I've got the tank buried, and the wire run to it, but I haven't had time to hook up the pump. I will probably wait until next spring now that things are freezing up since I plan to build a small enclosure for the pump and fill pipes and side it with the same material as the house. I picked up a 2000 F250 to drive for the winter and finish out house building project. With gas prices dropping, I'm going to see if I can't wait a little longer to put in the 390 gallons of 90 octane, then I'll have to add the 110 gallons of race fuel. For now I have just been staying off of it when I drive it. Somebody ran a zamboni over all the roads in town, so I don't even have a chance to get it up there now. The truck is in the shop for the next two weeks getting the painted fender flares put on, changing the oil, tranny flush and installing the 4.56 gears. I fly home on the 16th of November and will pick it up then. I'll have to wait to play with the new gears until March or April though.

I didn't use Torco, but I did use NOS octane booster. I think part of my problem was that I thought the 6 or 8 octane booster raised it up 6-8 octane levels. From what I've gathered, it only raised it up 6-8 points, so it would bring 87 octane up to 87.6-87.8 octane total. I didn't have much luck with the octane booster (plugs gumming up, still had some detonation), and in the long run with the amount I would have to use, it is cheaper to mix the fuel. At $3.00 a gallon for the 90 octane, and $8.00 a gallon for the 101 octane, it will cost me $3.62 a gallon to get around 92.5 octane for my truck. Now that fuel prices are going down, I'll hopefully be able to get that down around $3.00 a gallon. We are typically 2 weeks behind the fuel price changes that you guys see in the lower 48, so if we see a spike, I can top off real quick since it will last me nearly half the year with 500 gallons in the tank.

Yeah, I got it the other day. Just waiting to get on the dyno and get tuned. I've been meaning to ask you about the FactoryTech c-plate you are using. Do you like the way the tranny shifts now? How agressive do you have it set?

It's very good the way it shifts. That's a lot firmer.
McDover if you want send me an email with all mods you have and i will see if you are missing something. I don't think you have electric fans, do you ?
See ya.

Hope I’m not misinterpreting what you’re saying here…So basically you’re going to all this trouble and only getting ~ 92.5????? Am I missing something here? I have to assume you have no gas stations near you which already have 93? I run the TORCO racing additive in my Mustang. After exhaustively doing the math, it was cheaper to buy the Torco by the case and mix it at each fill up (with 93) than to get the Rocket 100 at the pump. Obviously things must be much different way up north there.

Any off the shelf “Octane” boost from the local chain stores is a complete waste of cash since it is a play on words (pun for you smarties). It does exactly as you stated. Only raises it by points. One has to read the fine print AND know what it means. Call Torco and explain to them your needs. I know for a fact that if you buy in quantities, they will give you a break in price, and you would be buying in mass quantities.

The highest I have ever seen in Alaska is 90 at the pump. Sometimes, outside the city, even that is hard to come by.

No BP's? That sux that they charge you the same for 90 which the southern states pay for 93

Like akheloce said, we only have 90 octane in Alaska for premium, and it is not enough for my truck. Also, shipping additives like Torco up here costs a small fortune in itself. Some other benefits to doing the tank is that I can do it from the house, and the wife doesn't have to worry about adding in a bottle here and a bottle there while I'm not home. It wasn't a big issue to bury the tank because we are in the process of building our house. A buddy of mine is doing all the excevation work, so I didn't have any added cost to bury it. It just worked out for the better for me.

It'll cost me about $15 more per fill up of 25 gallons if 90 octane is $3.00 a gallon. I should be looking at quite a bit less than that now that gas prices are lower. I guess it is just part of paying to play.
