Whipple Project Phase II---Where Can I Buy a GOOD Built Shortblock Up To $3000,00 ?
Whipple Project Phase II---Where Can I Buy a GOOD Built Shortblock Up To $3000,00 ?
Ok guys, S/C will be ready saturday or monday morning. The installation is being done with the original original kit, 8psi and no fuel upgrades, truck will be dynoed before and after install. I am probably gonna use the truck for one month and the next step will be installing a built short block, BTS transmission(if possible, i have to call Brian to check if he has a 4R75W model available, otherwise will be Monsterbox), water/methanol injection and take the boost to 16psi. I am looking for a reliable built shortblock, good for at least 700rwhp but i am not planning to go over $3000,00. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks for your time guys.

If you are going to spend the money on a built bottom end and removing the motor, spend a few more and get worked heads/cams! Now the 3V's are more efficent than the older 2V but you'll pick up alot of power with less boost with worked heads. Just seems pointless to me to bolt stock heads onto a built bottom end.
exactly what brahmus said. If you have restrictive flow in the heads, your not going to be able to "suck" in enough air to feed or exhaust your truck. Check with Livernois, they do pretty stout motors. They are located I believe in Livernois Michigan. Check Jegs and Summit racing since your in PA. They have some good prices on them. Otherwise, try a local engine machine shop. Sometimes they can be the best resource. Good luck.
This guy has very good prices and a good reputation with the Mustang guys.

You get what you pay for and you can choose your limit. The horspower you are looking for may cost a little more to do safely.
I also disagree about the heads. If you work the heads it will make a difference but cram 16lbs boost into any motor, especially a 3 valve and it is going to make good power. Lightning guys are running all over the place with the same heads and cams that I have on my 4.6 and are bumping the boost way up with great results.
Finally, (I'm going to get blasted for this) why would you want to run 16lbs.
Do you plan to race? If so you will have to remove a lot of weight and those pretty wheels and ... well you know, ruin that very fine looking truck you have there.
Good luck and have fun.

My question is, if i install a very good ported heads and cams on my truck, i will get extra 40rwhp or more ? Remember that my truck has a Whipple S/C 8psi, stock engine and Whipple tune. The only change i will have to do will be re-tuning the truck ?
