shackle question, issue, pics

hey guys I had a 2 inch drop shackle installed and the ride is a little ruff over bumps, Ive got about an inch of clearance over the rubber stopper which is what I think I am hitting. There just isn't much give if you know what I mean. I don't know much about how they are supposed to ride but my friend has a drop too and said his doesn't feel like that. Is this normal or do I need a smaller stopper that wasn't installed? Also how much damage will I do to continue riding on it like that? My set up is a Roush suspension kit plus the 2 inch shackle.

Truck looks good! Hor much drop is it now?

Is it the stock bump stop you're hitting? Cut it down some or get a shorter bump stop. There are some button style that are shorter, but they are not as forgiving. I've rode on my GF bumpstop (about 3/4" to 1" above the axle with bed unloaded) before with a heavy load in the bed. Didn't hurt anything.

just cut off a good amount of the stock bump stop.

The Roush kit is 2/3 then 2 inch shackles...so 2/5 all together.

Yes I believe it is the stock bump, it makes the most sense that its what I am hitting, its not metal or anything I can just tell my suspension is like maxed out. A speed bump makes it happen easily. Im not sure how tall the stock bump is, id have to look. I think my friend has the ground force kit, i am going to ride in it tomorrow to see how different it is from mine. I am also curious if the fact that I am using all of my Roush shocks makes a difference too. I'm going to stop by a shop tomorrow to see what they have to say about.

I would but it looks hard to reach for a clean cut and I believe the screw goes all the way through the bump stop.

how hard is it to get them off, is it better to just run with them and say F-it when they hot or take them out and if I hit metal to metal just same sh*t lol. Either way seems a bit shi*ty.

Just a single bolt through the center of the bump stop id remove them im dropped 6" in the rear and I hardly ever bottom out and I have a fiberglass bedcover which weights more than yours so you won't have any problems

ditto on just removing the bump stops

i did it on my 08 and never looked back!

josh34 01-15-2011 02:28 AM

also make sure you look at the pinch weld or whatever its called under the bed that should be directly above the shackles. sometimes that needs to be trimmed with lowering shackles

stoffer 01-15-2011 07:09 AM

are your shocks bottoming out as well??

bankrpt 01-15-2011 08:17 AM

True more than likely they are they are designed for 3" drop

Stealth 01-15-2011 08:56 AM

Yeah I was thinking that the shocks may be bottoming out after reading the responses.
