Leak in Airbag System
Leak in Airbag System
To all you guys that have helper bags on the rear- How much air do your bags lose over time?
I have the Firestone bags and Firestone compressor and gauge kit and lose about 2 lbs of air over 24 hours. I can't seem to find the leak in the lines or fittings. I've tried pumping the bags up to 70 psi thinking it would be more obvious at higher pressure, then squirting everything down with soapy water, with no luck. Could one of the bags be leaking? If so, I would think that the system would leak down faster?? It's such a slow leak that I can't hear any air escaping. This really sucks! Any ideas?

2lbs over 24 hours is a pretty small leak. If the airbags did have a leak.. you would know it by the sound of the kabooom. They dont just leak. Either its fine or it blows up. Probably just a loose fitting.
It's annoying me, too. I may redo all of my connections when I get time just to see if I can find it. It really isn't too big of a deal as I just bump the switch for a second in the mornings and put some air back in. I may call Firestone to see if maybe the compressor could be causing the loss. I wouldn't think it was normal seeing as how some people don't have a compressor. That would suck stopping by the gas station every morning to put in 2 lbs. of air.
That's what I thought, but wasn't sure. Thanks for the info.
Thanks!

yes it is. the check valve for it should be screwed into the compressor head. then the leader hose is screwed into that.
After looking a little closer at the check valve idea, it seems that the compressor does have one on the outlet. However, there is not one near the gauge/switch and I can see where a leak could occur there.

it also helps me pinpoint leaks in my system. if i leave my truck aired up at night and i see it drops below certain psi. i know the leak is somewhere from the bag fittings or the valves themselves.because it wont bleed back into the tanks with the check valves in place.
now if i leave the truck aired up and stays up all night and my tank is empty. i know the leak is behind the check valves.
i know it sounds confusing lol...best thing to do is redo the fittings. instead of using teflon tape..try using the liquid teflon. best sealer out there.
