Do you bottom out?

Hey guys. I'm thinking of getting a lowering kit for myself after Christmas. I have been thinking of a 2/4 drop with replacement springs front and rear or a 2/5 drop with springs in front and a rear flip kit. I don't want to go crazy with the drop, I just want to go lower.

I have a heavy snuglid tonneau and I was wondering if a 2/5 would be too much drop for the rear with the tonneau. I don't want to sag. I am also concerned that the 2/5 drop would cause me to bottom out like crazy with the tonneau on there. The truck is my daily driver, so I can't be having that.

I also know that a 2/4 kit is more expensive than a 2/5 kit.

So, now that you know my situation, I'd be much appreciative of any applicable opinions.

**ETA: By bottoming out, I mean the rear axle bottoming out against the bump stops.**

I've got a 3-4 drop using Belltechs kit and a pretty heavy tonneau (snugtop) and haven't had any issues with bottoming out in the rear. I do run into some issues in the front when i hit a steep dip and going too fast, but really no problems and no regrets, wish i had gone lower sooner. hope that helps

my belltech 2/4 was aight till I overloaded the drop leafs. now they sag pretty bad. right now I have a set of 22's with tires and a tonneau cover over the leafs and I have about 3/4" of play on the one side and about a quarter inch on the other. I'm going with eibach next time

I bottom out sometimes, but im on stock springs with a 3/5 kit. the 04+ has more room under the frame, so 5" drop on mine would be more like a 6" on yours

I think I should explain more. When I was referred to bottoming out I meant the rear suspension bottoming out with the rear axle bottoming out against the bump stop. That would drive me crazy. The ground clearance bottoming out is a given to me with a lowered truck. I already have a 31.6" tall set of tires on the truck and that's the tire height I plan on sticking with, only on some 20's. That would give a bit more ground clearance.

I thought you would. I figured some other guys here would have some opinions as well. I should have explained better the first time.

stealth i meant i bottomed the frame against the axle. I call it dragging if the frame or body is touching the ground

I'm going to need to brush up on "the lingo" real soon.

I do know what laying frame is.

I used to bottom out like crazy with my drop. It turned out to be a 2/5.5 drop, one inch lower in the back than advertised. And the McGaughy's kit (mine) doesn't come with shocks. I bottomed out rolling out my driveway at 5MPH...

I got the McGaughy's rear airbag assist kit, rides a lot nicer, and bottoming out is nearly impossible with the bags at 30PSI.

Late to the party, but it'll be nice to see your truck live up to your screen name.

Just use the search, there is alot of feedback, good and bad about lowering kits on here.

If you develope any specific questions later, just ask.

BTW Merry Christmas :santa: :santa:

Thanks.

Well, actually the ball is already rolling. The front setup will arrive soon, so all I need to do is order the rear leafs and a CB relocation bracket and I'll be just about set.
