Best Subs for Lightning

Hey I was wondering what are the best subs that I could put in my Lightning and what size would be best, 10's or 12's? Also how many watt amp should I buy and what are the best brands for subs and amps? Also what stereo deck would look the best in my truck?

Everyone has a differenct opinion on what subs, amp, etc. The best thing to do for you HU is to visit your local audio stores and see which one you like the best. I have the Pioneer 7400MP and absolutely love it. Although some people complain that the MP3's take longer to load than other HU's. The best features are the High Pass Filter (filters bass from speakers) and the abundance of EQ's. This HU is great for our trucks because you can set up the sound stage to have your front speakers to produce more volume up front.

As far as subs & amp, you can get 10's or 12's it just depends on what sound you are looking for and how much $$$ you want to spend. With limited space you need a sealed enclosure. You have to buy your amp after you pic your subs, because the amp needs to push the RMS power of the subs (i.e. if you subs handle 300 watts RMS you need an amp that will push 300 watts RMS per sub).

Good luck, if you have any specific questions let me know.

John

I have the Pioneer DEH-7400MP and absolutely love it. I highly recommend it because of the built-in crossovers, sub control, EQ's and sound staging setup. It is an awesome HU, especially for trucks because the sound staging setup lets you adjust the listening position to make the front speakers play twice as loud as the rears. This is a must when you have subs.

2Trucks1Wife... what do you mean the MP3's take longer to load? That's compared to other MP3 head units? How much did you pay for yours? Have you noticed in sound quality difference in the MP3 player versus just a regular CD format?

www.sounddomain.com has the 7400MP on sale for $229. I've gotta go play around with it at a local store and see what I think. Sure would be nice to just drop in 1 disc with over 100 songs instead of keeping up with a bunch of CD's with only 15 to 20 songs each.

I had a Kenwood Z919 and I used the MP3 function for a while but I didnt like how long it took to switch between tracks. It wouldnt FF or RW a song either, only skip. Other than that the quality was good.

The Pioneer 7400MP takes a little longer than other MP3 players to load. I don't know how much longer because this is what other people have said. I paid $265 for mine when they were selling for $300+. I haven't played an MP3 disk since I upgraded the rest of my system so I don't know if there is a SQ difference. I finally got my burner working again so I need to download some music...

I have the SONY EXPLODE mp3 player and it works great. FF, RR and it actually goes between songs faster than a normal cd.
I used BOSTONs for all four corners and us a JBL 400 watt amp for those.
FOSGATE HE 10" subs powerd by a 400 watt FOSGATE amp in a homemade box.

I have a really nice Boston Accoustics 10 in subwoofer system. For being only one ten inch it sounds way better than most dual 12's, and it is a perfect fit behing your seat. I am looking to get rid of it fairly cheap, so if you are iterested let me know. I have all kinds of other things to complete your system also.

Hey babygirl you should come over to the lightning forum, a ton of guys have done this. I'm doing it myself right now. What you can do is remove it and put it under the center seat, on top of the "hump" Some guys velcro it to the carpet, and some make a bracket and mount it to the bottom of the seat. I'm trying to find out what the best way to run the wire is though. Good Luck

Thats a nice clean install, great job.

I am going to be building a custom encloser to hold 2 JL 6.5" subs. I am going to try to make them fire downwards. When I get it done I will post some pics.
