Talking Audio System Upgraded!!

Yep!, I finally took the plunge and sprung for some serious sound system upgrades.

After an extensive search of these forums for advice and suggestions and of course, bearing in mind my budgetary constraints, I have upgraded to the following:

Headunit - Pioneer DEH P8400MP cd/cd-r/mp3 receiver (seriously cool)

Cd Changer - Pioneer 650cdx (6 disc magazine)

Front and rear speakers : Infiniti 5752 reference series (two way)

Subwoofer: MTX Thunderform custom powered subwoofer (fits under rear seat with 2 8" woofers).

Installation completed yesterday so I am still playing with the new toys

Tedzilla,

So far, the Infinities are a definite improvement over the stock speakers and I expect that they will sound even better as they get broken in.

However, I have to admit that the Kappas would have given more bang, and in the long run, I guess the extra fifty or so bucks would have been worth it, but I could'nt wait!

Thumbs up

I own a Chevy ZR2, but am looking at an F-150. I'd have to say that the 6.5" Infinity Kappa's that I have installed sound AWESOME on my Clarion DRX 9675 head unit. They are pretty loud and put out enough bass for me, but I'm not really into rap music where you can hear the car rattle a mile away.

I'd have to say Infinity's are the best bang for the buck!

I would throw in one more vote for the Kappa's. I've installed these in several different vehicles and have loved them in each one. Infinity make a great product. They can handle lots of power but don't require it to sound good. They will make any stock system sound much better.

GearHead_1,
My wife has Infinity speakers in her Montero Sport which sounds great once I replaced the factory head unit. I don't know what model of Infinity they are. I am looking at replacing my SuperCrew stereo system. I called Crutchfield and I was looking at putting Infinity Kappa components in the front and 5"x7" in the back. The Crutchfield guy told me that the components were too big to fit the factory cut out for the front and the 5"x7" depth was to deep for the back. Any suggestions as to how to install them and what size amp to run them? I am also looking at installing an Alpine head unit and a sub or 2.

Thanks,
Blake

bcbnine,

What are you driving. I too was told that they wouldn't fit in the rear of my SuperCrew. The speakers in the back of our trucks don't sit in the door but in a receptacle that is on top of the door. This requires minor shimming to allow the 5X7 Kappas to fit. It really is no big deal. I have never heard that said about the fronts. I know of several that have installed these in the front, no problems. There are lots of good amps on the market. I like JBL products in this category. Fosgate, MTX, Alpine all make really nice products.

I think that Crutchfield knows exactly what they are talking about but they are recommending what will work as a drop in no mods replacement.
